CP ... without looking at your clip, every city, most towns that I can recall are built around a reliable water source ... almost always a river.

Tourist destinations, mining towns etc are an exception.

When I get some free time, I'll watch the clip in the OP.

Haven't looked at the clip because it's obvious why most cities are there , and even the obscure ones like Brazzaville the capital of Brazil, gets enough coverage of why it was developed, bit like Canberra.

Slip of the tongue? I take it you meant Brasilia. Brazaville is the capital of the Congo Republic.

In some areas of America, towns tended to be about 30 miles apart, because railroad crews drilled wells every 30 miles to provide the water needed to run old steam locomotives (19th century). Towns formed near the water source. 30 miles also is about the maximum distance a person can travel by horse in a single day, with some regard for the longevity of the horse.

If you're a 'climate change' believer, here are some cities that may have been better off selecting a spot a bit more inland.

'If humanity continues producing carbon emissions at its current rate, scientists expect a 4 degrees Celsius temperature rise (7.2 degrees Fahrenheit). Climate Central found that translates to a sea level rise of 7-8.9 meters (23-29 feet) over the next several centuries. Thousands of cities around the world would be submerged under that new high tide mark including Shanghai, Kolkata, Jakarta, Tokyo, New York City, Hong Kong, Miami and New Orleans, just to name a few.'

If you're not a climate change believer - you really should check out glaciers receding, cuz the shit be goin' down:

Those right-wing, republican, politico fuckheads have been burying their heads in the sand on this shit for years. There are numerous clips out their illustrating straight denial, etc. (check out: Years of Living Dangerously)

Pretty soon they'll wake up to it, as they'll smell some money to be made outta' the deal.

If you like Bangkok, you'd be well-advised to enjoy it sooner rather than later.
