British national arrested after robbing tuk-tuk driver

After reporting the theft to Karon police on Saturday, the tuk-tuk driver, Tawatchai Namwong, posted a warning about the pilfering farang on social media.

A British tourist was arrested and charged with theft yesterday after stealing a tuk-tuk driver’s wallet and other possessions from inside the taxi’s cab while it was parked in Karon last week.

After reporting the theft to Karon police on Saturday, the tuk-tuk driver, Tawatchai Namwong, posted a warning about the pilfering farang on social media.

The post read: ‘A foreigner in a white car drove up and parked behind my tuk-tuk while I stepped into a Family Mart outlet in Karon. I had not locked my vehicle. The man opened the driver’s side door and stole my ATM card, driving licence and other documents. Please be very careful and lock your car door every time in order to protect your belongings.’

Police captured the suspect in Patong yesterday afternoon.

“He is a 27-year-old British tourist, named Aaron Walter, and he had been staying at the Karon Princess Hotel but checked out on the same day as the theft, but he had rented a white Honda Jazz from a car rental place in Patong,” confirmed Karon Police captain Weerayut Thansirisukhaworakul.

British tourist Aaron Walter, 27, was arrested in Patong

He was staying in a proper hotel and driving a car , he'd need a wallet or two a day for that ?

unless he had a beef with that particular driver

Not CCTV footage. They were waiting for him to do it.

Someone even comes out to check he's done it. Some kind of fit up

It's time to have a word with yourself when you've resorted to robbing tuk tuk drivers in Thailand.

    Strange.

But, firstly he deserved to be banged up for a few years for wearing that hat.

Secondly, why would the tuk tuk driver go into the family mart without his wallet?

On does wonder if it is a bit of a fit up. Possible scenario (CSI TD!) is that it was a drug deal set up - I will get the drugs, leave them in the glove compartment - when I go into the family mart, you go get them.......surprise, no drugs and its all filmed.....

I think TD CSI over-complicate things at times. Or most of the time.

Occam's razor: he's a scumbag chav and opportunistic thief.

Wonder how many thefts he's got away with before this?

He'd better get himself off the island asap if he's got half a brain
But let's hope he gets locked up

From 57 seconds to 2.2 mins these people did nothing to either stop the sneak thief or inform anyone.

The tuk tuk driver must be an idiot not to lock his car in Phuket.
