Regardless of cost, it would still be worthwhile getting it repaired by an authorised dealer as you will then have something of infinitely more value. You probably don't have the original box or receipt from your Dad, but the service receipt which will have the individual watch reference number will be as good in lieu.

That’s a good point, I never thought of that. Not that important though as this watch will never be for sale.
