    Rubbish.

    Boring.

    But tolerable.

I've set my sites on a year in Mongolia for my 30th birthday and a treat for sticking it out here.

I'm sure it will get better once the wifey gets out this week but not sure if she can hack it.

It is seriously fucking dull living here. God knows what Libya would have been like.

I was scared. Thought some sort of black magic was being used. I was expecting a bunch of witch doctors to start coming out from under my bed and waving spears and monkey brains at me.

It was a very good post by Fast Eddie:

Absolutely agree, but should CMN really give a flying fck - surely there are more important things in his life that he should be concerning himself with - I can not think of one benefit that he will gain by becoming stressed about this matter; on the contrary all he is going to do is to upset someone he cares about: his wife; speaking of whom:

    I hear you brother....

Seriously CMN, reflect on your reaction to this - is it really something worth raising your blood pressure over?
Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

In CMN's situation, i would personally consider that the policeman was being rude.
I'd say lazy, not rude. 'Carl' is a bitch for Thais to pronounce, too.

By the way, half of the police officers I have had the pleasure of meeting seem like they were modelled on the Springfield chief of police (Simpsons), and the rest as if taken out of a Marx brothers movie. Unless you have to, don't take them too seriously.

Chief Wiggum: Okay folks, show's over. Nothing to see here, show's... Oh my god! A horrible plane crash! Hey everybody, get a load of this flaming wreckage! Come on, crowd around, crowd around!

Chief Wiggum: Do it for this adorable little puppy. Look at the puppy, Marge.
    Marge: That's your hat.
    Lou: She's good, chief.

Wiggum: Put out an APB on a Uosdwis R. Dewoh. Uh, better start with Greektown.
Cop: That's "Homer J. Simpson", Chief. You're reading it upside down.
Wiggum: Uh, cancel that APB. But, uh, bring back some of them, uh, gyros.
Cop: Uh, Chief? You're talking into your wallet.

Chief Wiggum: She didn't reckon with the awesome power of the Chief of Police. Now where did I put my badge? Hey, that duck's got it.

    I know.
i am still referred to as cow by the manager I have known for 6 years.
I still prefer them to have a go.

    And Danbo.
I keep waiting for a punchline but it would seem you are being serious.

In truth i have had problem after problem in my neighbourhood over the past year.
My wife and I were both hoping that a middle class village would offer a pleasant way of life.
    It hasn't.
    The bastards here are scum.
Live 12 to a house and are very fukking nosey.
    It gets my goat.
Hence the "does anyone want to buy my house?" thread.

All Thais are nosey and they seem to love being packed in together like rats. If I built a house in Thailand it would be on two acres (whats that in Rai?) of land with a large moat and draw bridge.

Even within a nice village you have to pick the right soi or area - I lived in this village for 3 years before I bought the house and so far the neighbours have been great.

Doesn't mean a bunch of pricks ain't gonna move in and make my life hell later on though.

we were the first people here.
when we bought the property we inserted a penalty clause.
rather than pay us the 500 baht a day, they shifted us in.
temporary electric and water supply and even a security guard.
    just for us.

had no idea what was to come.

I am being serious, but it is meant as friendly advice nothing else. The guy means nothing to you, forget him, he's not important to your life.

    But why not.
When someone is making you miserable, why not get angry.
He means something to me because he shares a shady part time life with the woman opposite.
The neighbour that offed my dogs means something to me because he offed my dogs and lives next door, at least until recently.

shrugging it off isn't always so easy.

living in a Thai middle class moo ban ? man, you are fucking insane. It's like living in a US middle class suburb, you just don't belong as a foreigner. What were you expecting ? BBQ every week-end at the neighboors ?

    Noony,

I'm serious about the break. You can easily take a year out have a change of scenery and come back recharged. Thailand isn't going anywhere, it will still be here in the foresable future. Maybe not if it gets nuclear power but that's another story.

    Maybe I'm missing something here....
He means something to me because he shares a shady part time life with the woman opposite.
    He's what? A relative, a friend of a friend, a neighbour, a stranger?

When someone is making you miserable, why not get angry.
Is there any reason whatsoever for you to care what this person thinks of you? Fair enough, if he is thinks and is telling other people that you are a thief or something then you would have a right to be concerned and angry, but if he is just ignorant, why do you care? You say he is making you miserable - I just don't get it - don't worry about it; if your wife comes home with a similar story, tut and shrug your shoulders in a resigned way and then go and make yourself a sandwich and never give the matter another thought

If the policeman is trying to upset you by saying 'farang', and I am far from convinced that this is the case, then you are letting him win.

Ignore it , smile, laugh, and make him lose.
