Are you an internet Nerd or Geek?

Years ago I heard blokes talking about spending their time on a computer, communicating with unknown people and I thought why the fuk would people waste their time doing such a thing. Yes, I have heard stories about blokes pulling birds, getting free shags and whilst that sounds semi-productive why would one bother?

There must be plenty of other more productive ways to waste your time and I considered these blokes should consider their options.

Now after 20 odd thousand posts am I one of these geeks, feverishly sitting over my laptop waiting to respond with some witty remark to some "Billy no mates" sitting in his bedsit communicating with an absolute stranger.

Don't get me wrong, I have made many friends by way of this forum and that in itself is worth my time here but I cannot help to think that this macabre form of interactive medium is everything to some people and that is fuking sad.

Dunno about others but for me it's light entertainment and some useful travel talk. I've got a pretty good life and this forum is like watching some TV show. If it ended it wouldn't matter much at all. Just a bit of fun, not life itself.

Don't worry, we'll inscribe on your tombstone!

'He was always there to reply to Smeg'

Perhaps Smeg could be appointed as an honorary Grandchild, or some other family title (in the case of Ant: ' my surrogate triplet'), given the attention lavished on him by men who have existing families, to whom they are currently presenting their back, whilst hunched over the laptop, writing putdowns to Smeg.

^^^ Fair play mate and some of the members here have assisted me with a wealth of valuable information but.........................................

You can't help to think that this medium is the only way that some can express themselves and actually believe their opinions matter.

Yes, it is somewhat entertaining to watch some members make a complete dickhead of themselves, (I've probably been guilty on occasions) but the internet seems to have encapsulated a lot of people's lives.

people spend their lives watching tv, playing with their phones or on the internet.

u only just worked it out????

at the end of the day it doesn't matter what u do because u are going to end up as dust, so as long as u r having fun that's what matters

You have obviously missed your preferred vocation in life mate.

An apron and pot glove is what you need, but don't spill anything on your keyboard.

I remember a scene in the Sopranos where Tony sees his son laughing at something on an internet forum and typing back. He shakes his head and wonders what the fuk is wrong with his son talking to folk on the internet, and the audience is assumed to sympathise with T.

But the scene could look dated now I think as it is becoming more and more accepted that cyberspace is a real medium of communication and the punters on forums are mostly real folk.

forums attract people who want to talk about certain topics. your personal friends may have different hobbies and going to a bar u r going to speak to drunks who also may have completely different interests.

before the internet people had pen pals from around the world. the internet makes it virtually instant contact and u can talk about anything. it's pretty cool really.

I was forced to have a penpal against my will as some sort of school project when I was 9. She was a girl in Canada. I didn't want to have a pen-pal or write letters so my letter was subtly rude in ways that an adult could not detect. I did not hear back from her.

Well that was my cunning plan as I remember it and it succeeded judging by the outcome. Whether my subterfuge was in fact picked up by an eagle-eyed adult letter vetter or not I cannot say but I was not pulled up about it.

The list does go on. If I wanted to crank one out when I was 15 I had to use my feverishly warped imagination. The internet is so awesomely great 15 year olds should not be allowed to use it.
