This is new to me, just watching a documentary and there talking about snakehead fish are becoming very popular in Thailand and there becoming very dangerous.

I watched a documentry on Snakehead fish are an invasive species in Claifornia,as Thais making merit release live nippers into the fresh water and they grow big and destroy the indeginous species. Assuming that they are being exported live to asian markets in California, somebody must be farming them for export.![]()
Channa micropeltes | Giant snakehead | Pla chado | ปลาชะโด
Abundant in the lakes around Chiang Mai and a good game fish...
General info: Giant snakehead - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
More info: Channa micropeltes, Indonesian snakehead : fisheries, aquaculture, gamefish, aquarium
What is mostly farmed around here and what is sold on fresh markets, is Channa striata (common snakehead)
Yes. Me. Wouldn't call it farming per se but have in ponds in rice paddies.Originally Posted by Yasojack
Loads of the smaller Common Snake-head fish in the local dykes and ponds.I have loads of fishing gear but brought a small spinning rod and matched it up with an old ABU closed faced reel I had.I also brought some of those small frog lures ( you need the double hooked weed free type )
Anyway I tried and caught sweet FA ,that's when I emailed Jean Francois Helias and he told me to put a small propeller type attractor on the lures as Snake-heads like loads of noise and action in a lure. These were brought from my local tackle shop for about 20 baht each...As soon as I started using the propellers I caught fish.
Some of the bigger Giant Snake-heads can be found in the big reservoirs but they seem to be hard to catch unless you have a good guide
Here's a photo I found on the WWW to show you what can be caught in some reservoirs

Big Ol' Lucky Ol' Al.
Boloa Funny you mention about noise, was watching a doc in USA about carp and a boat traveling along a river where carp were, they have nets on the side of boats because of the noise there was tons of carp jumping all around the boat, they where catching really big loads.

About a half a kilogram in size tastes best. Been very popular for years, nice to BBQ.
The ones you get in Thailand or called Pla Jiin ( Big headed Carp ) or Hypophthalmichthys nobilis. I put about 60-70 in a mate's pond a few years ago ( along with loads of other spices ) and already we are catching them up to 2 kilos .They seem to be fast growers. They actually grow quite big but have a funny smell to them and are covered in a thick slime ( compared to other fish ) The smaller ones tend to have soft mouths and need to played lightly......Here's a link .. Here's a photo showing the type of Lures I used small Common Snakeheads, the lure body size should be about about 35-40mm.
Notice the fish that had been caught on this link below all have lures fitted with propellersWhen you buy these type of frog lures they never come fitted.

^ sounds nice.
Years ago (7 or 8) when I lived in Saraburi, there were some nice Issanish style restaurants (you know the ones with the clay soup pots, etc) and they served really nice snakehead; just along from the train station; cheap and pleasant evenings...
^Yeah, I ate it in Cambodia cooked on a BBQ a few times, really nice tasty fish IMO.
