Because only paupers buy old luxury cars in the desperate bid to try an prove that they can afford it, even if all the tires are bald and the only service it has had in the last 3 years if from his mate Dave down the road who knows a thing or two about motors.

I buy them new, but in this scenario I would rather have the Ute - it's honest that's why.

Seeing as a new car in the uk loses about 30% of its value as soon as the first owner takes possession it makes better financial sense to purchase second hand and let the mug who paid full price take the hit.

Thats the same mug who just has to be seen in a vehicle with the latest date specific registration plates that mark the car out as a new purchase, similar to the red plate madness of thailand.

In the uk there is good consumer protection for purchasers of second hand cars, and there is little to fear in buying one.

The uk cars listed above are cheap because the cost of fuel, insurance and road tax is so high for those types of vehicles. Maintenance costs wont be that different to those for mainstream cars.

As far as maintenance costs go on the Jag and Merc, at that price you could hope to run it for a couple of years and if any big problems arose, ditch it and get another.

I only used those as examples as to the price of cars.
Those Jags and Mercs are very good value, less then 100k on them they should be good fo another 100.
There are loads of them, they're certainly not all as you described.
This is to compare the cost of used cars in Britain to that of Australia, where for some reason 2nd hand cars are FUCKING expensive. I reckon it's the ADR keeping all the cheap jap imports out.

Anyway, what makes you think the Brumby's honest?
I didn't see anything in that ad that would make me think so.
5k for a (Not classic or in great condition luxury) 22 year old car? I don't think so.
