And I'll be going for my run ( ie not a walk) down by the lovely clean river in about 2 hours. It's surprising how far a person who has not smoked since the 1970s can go.Quote:

So you run on a treadmill for your doctor once every three years, go for a full range of tests etc and the old quack says, "Yup, U iz OK, u kin keep on workin." etc etc.
Don't be surprised if you start wheezing with all that cycling around Chiangmai.
You know as well as I do that everyone gets that Chiangmai cough,........ that's compromising.
I mentioned earlier that two of my Thai family, non -smokers are coughing and wheezing all day, COPD being the cause. Both are non-smokers, never smoked in their lives.
Three others, one in Chiangmai, one in Mae Rim and the other at Lamphun have been diagnosed with lung cancer also.
It scares the hell out of me. The younger one, at Lamphun has recovered after chemotherapy but the one in Mae Rim is still not well. The lady in Chiangmai recovered also after chemotherapy.
All these victims are female.
The Chiangmai victims of OCPD are coughing like troopers! This has been going on for over a month now, and this latest smoke haze hasn't helped at all.
I've tried to convince them to come over to NZ as planned, but no, they gotta stay and make money.
I can hardly believe how much they're ignoring what's really happening to them.
Anyway, I've put them onto the herbs, but being Thai, they have some other herbs they want to use and of course blamme it all on Pi, so go to the wat and make lots of donations and other relatives go to the wat for a week for devotionary service, yup, shave, robe up etc, hang in for a week or so and then think they've made enough merit to get rid of the cancer.
Sad.
C'est la vie.
Radioactivity?!?!
....everyone knows that exposure to radioactivity is what gives you superpowers.

I am sure it should, as your lungs must be very damaged, good that you managed to stop smokingQuote:

Being reminded on another thread of the connection between sage and wormwood, another healing herb, it's a good idea to explain the uses of sage further.
Sage, (salvia divinorum) contains a little of the chemical compound thujone, also found in greater quantities in wormwood, from which the halucinogenic drink absinthe is made.
The effects of thujone are a little like ganja, and the herb sage is illegal to grow or possess in France and Spain, although it grows wild there.
One of the effects of drinking two cups of sage tea is for a a couple of weeks is that it raises the level of HDL cholesterol relative to "A" cholesterol.
So, there's another added benefit of drinking that little formula I've previously given as an aid in quitting tobacco smoking.
Here's the formula again;
Equal portions by volume of lobelia, sage, gotu kola and mint (dry or fresh, best dried) to make up about one flat teaspoon of mixture, added to 350 ml of hot water in a cup with sugar or honey, even some lemon, to taste.
The mixture makes an excellent and refreshing drink, relaxing, calming, soothing and revivifying.
It completely nullifies any cravings or urges to smoke tobacco at all, or imbibe drugs or alcohol to excess, and it soothes and reduces the symptoms of asthma, bronchitis and OCPD, makes breathing easier, increases lung and cardiovascular capacity and is also an expectorant.
Have a happy day all you nicotine quitters! Success! :)
It's now the end of week # 11 since I quit smoking. :)
No cravings or urges for a smoke, and I associate with smokers, no problems.
When I first quit, I took a little piece of lobelia any time I felt like a smoke, until the urge/thought for a smoke gradually got less until now, where I don't feel like, or think about a smoke at all.
I drink a cup of my herb mix every day instead of tea, mid-mornings usually, or in the evening.
The effect is to keep my cardio-vascular system dilated and going at optimum capacity.
It also keeps my cholesterol levels in balance, weight steady and "mucus escalator" active.
One's mucus escalator is the method by which mucus is normally moved from the lungs to the oesophagus then swallowed.
In smokers' lungs and in lungs affected by COPD or infections, that mucus escalator effect is impaired, resulting in coughing as a compensatory re-action to achieve the same effect.
After some time, those who've quit smoking may feel mucus build up in the back of the nose and back of the throat at the trachia where they join the larynx.
This is because the cilia, the fine hairs in the bronchi have started to become active again, some new ones have regrown, and others have freed up as more pollution deposits in the lung are expectorated along with mucus.
As the cilia start to work again, the passage of mucus up the lung and out through the bronchi to the larynx is escalated, so causing the mucus escalator effect.
At this stage, you know that your lungs are in the process of healing and recovery.
Using lobelia and sage hastens this process as the expanded capillaries in the lungs, caused by lobelia, become less congested and mucus is eliminated faster, due to sage.
Anyway, how are you all doing with your non-smoking?
No matter if any of you have reached for a smoke a few times, the point is to finally quit alltogether. Whatever you do, don't feel guilty or self critical to the point of beating yourself up over it! Just be aware of what you're doing, what made you smoke, think it through, deal to the trigger.
And don't feel that you can't ask for help, or use a herb like lobelia to help you quit.
Read up about lobelia, there's a lot of information out about it if you look.
(PS. lobelia's not gonna kill ya or get you addicted!) :)
A recent report says that 13 million Thais are smokers!
That's risen to around 1 in 5 of the population!
And most of that tobacco smoked is in the form of Thai or Chinese made cigs, chemical fuses. Hell.
Yeah that's the thing isn't it? Smoking is down in western countries so the tobacco companies are trying to push sales in Asia!
Around 600 permitted additives in cigarettes including moisturisers, sugars, flavorings like cinnamon chocolate and vanilla, are toxic in combination with other substances in the tobacco.
Chinese cigarettes have higher concentration of saccharides and lower concentration of organic acids and amino acids.
Cigarette tobacco is blended from two main leaf varieties, Virginia, usually a golden colour and ‘burley’ tobacco with a higher nicotine content, along with filler, made from the stems and ribs of the tobacco leaf, the reason being that high filler content makes a lighter tobacco with a slightly lower tar content.
Nonetheless, the higher level of chemical and other inorganic additives in SE Asian and Chinese cigarettes makes them a greater health risk than any relatively "clean" pipe tobacco or cigars.
A Saudi Arabian study confirmed that high levels of Cadmium and lead are inhaled with cigarette smoke, as well as minute amounts of polonium.
The main chemicals loaded into tobacco leaf though are pesticides and fertilisers.
DDT was the main pesticide used and nitrates were the main fertiliser until more recently.
Then other nastier pesticides and fertilisers arrived, including our old friend, fluorides.
So tobacco contains more fluorides than almost any other crop consumed, apart from tea.
Food for thought.
Thank you muchly Dr ENT, we are grateful that you have chosen to bless the unwashed minions at TD to benifit from your expertise.
I too have knocked off the addiction to the dreaded weed.
Now I'm back in OZ I'm happy enough about that, because if I was still an addict I couldn't afford it.
Worse still I beleive here in OZ if you want a packet of fags and you can pay about 12 $ a packet you have to ask for them from under the counter, a bit like a dirty magazine. Anyway I knocked the fags, just didn't buy any more, no gum, patches or Libella or what ever it is.
Good on you, mate ! You've done a great thing. How long has it been since you gave up ?
2 and a half months in.
Still crave when I am stressed but not when drinking.
My boss had to fly back to the UK yesterday as his dad had been rushed into hospital because of his emphysema. Things like that keep me off the cigs.
Good on ya slimboyfat!
I'm at the end of my 12th week tomorrow, and not having to use lobelia any more either. :)
I'm really impressed with how it works, No more cravings, the occasional thought of smoking arises when someone's having a smoke around me, but I've no craving or urge to smoke at all.
My lungs are clearing up well, still bringing up black stuff in the phlegm, I'd be worried if I didn't.
I've now switched to gotu kola and sage to keep the lungs clearing.
Up to five leaves of gotu kola a day and a small cup of sage tea twice a day works well.
Gotu kola and vitamin E help in forming colagen and aid in keeping the vascular system supple.
