This could well be the reason, Dillinger, though different people react differently. I myself am one of those who does not sleep so well in Winter. Humans are much more light-sensitive than they realize.
However there is something else which I haven't noticed anyone mention so far : EXERCISE ! Tire yourself out with a good workout and you will sleep much better.

Your body heals itself when you sleep I think.

    ^ 10 hours ? Maybe you should get a check up ?

I know I've got problems right now. Change is on the way. I really have no choice about it. I'll probably leave Thailand for work after the new year and that will snap me out of this. I've only been in this state for a little more than a month.

    I don't now about that....
Some might argue [I'm one] that by the time they reach 2, it's too late.

By 5-6 months, they can sleep in a crib in the room.

Just because one sleeps longer or even sleeps less does not indicate maladies.

I thought there might be some gender bias with insomnia but I couldn't find any evidence.
From personal experience, women sleep longer than men. I think it's probably more marked over here, along with shopping yakking and eating.
Have you tried shopping and eating more as a cure?

I don't think I have ever slept soundly for a 3 or 4 hour stretch since I have been in Thailand.

Last night for example I guess I feel asleep around midnight and was up at 3.00am with my head in the fridge looking for something to eat.

Then I feel asleep at around 4 and was up at 7.30am.

Like you Dill I have no problem sleeping when I'm away from Thailand.

Solid sleep every day of the week. 10pm thru to 6:30am.

The trick is to drink plenty of water during the day and avoid drinking/eating anything after 8pm.
    Plenty of exercise.
    Well balanced diet.

If you have problems sleeping you're either depressed, mentally ill or a raging homo.

Alcohol and audio books could ease the burden. Ultimately of course the booze isn't healthy, but a good 7/8 hours could act as a stress reliever, essentially overriding the physiological factor.

I went through a prolonged period of insomnia a few years ago. Twasn't pleasant.

i think my sleeplessness is because i dont work when im here, the old grey matter dosent get a good enough workout so dosent shut down properly. There are nights when i would rather just stay up, then stay up all the next day, in the hope that the following nights sleep will be mind blowingly refreshing, but i always nod off and then wake up feeling fcuked late the next morning.

Alcohol always fucks up sleeping patterns and the quality of sleep.

I usually sleep from midnight till 7.30 no problem. Now that I've had beer most nights for the last week or so I'm wide awake at half 2 in the fucking morning.
