How often do you open yours

I'm talking about my wallet , it came to me this morning laying in bed just after a quick coupling , when the girlfriend announced the we were running short of bin liners . Then it struck me like some sort of pseudo religious apparition, I am now fully convinced that I open my wallet on more occasions here in Thailand than I ever did back home in England . Every day I seem to be reaching into my pocket and pulling out my trusty leather look Easy Rider wallet , day in day out the same thing, another twenty Baht note hits the dust , its never ending . Thinking back to the old days before I arrived in Thailand , I never remember whipping out any thing on such a regular basis .

So I'm looking for answers , do others here feel the same , are you for ever doling out money at an alarming or suicidal rate , what is causing this phenomena , is it being induced by the warm climate or over tight elastic waistbands.

There must be a reason , I'm not imagining it as my draw full of worn out wallets can prove .
If you whistle at night snakes will come to your house.

When I lived in a resort, I often by-passed the wallet and went straight from ATM to beer tokens via the pocket.
Now I live in Nakhon Nowhere I can go for days without even thinking about it.

Yes, many small purchases every day. Annoying.
Wife must go to the market every day. Nickles and dimes, like a leaking faucet. Inefficient.
Fortunately, there are very few big purchases.

back home you planned and shopped accordingly. You don't buy one AA battery, you buy a pack of 20 and stick the rest in the drawer.
Thais live in the now with a forward planning range of 47minutes or their next meal, which is always about 47 minutes away.
They put petrol in their bikes one liter at a time, when BiL first saw me fill my 10 ltr tank he thought I was insane and asked me if I was planning to ride to Bangkok.
Check, the missus will probably come back with 7 bin liners.

My wallet only retains brown, purple and red notes and they're jealously guarded! All blue and green ones, plus shrapnel, are stuffed into a pot on the kitchen counter for things like bin bags, motocy taxi's, a bag o' somtam etc etc....... and life's little mysteries like "where the fuck did all the sao baht notes go, I'm sure there was a whole clutch of 'em there just before the missus went out!"

That changes when you have a family, I remember when 1000 Bt went some way at Makro, now 5000 Bt doesnt touch the sides, and then every day, 60 Bt each for Pocket money, plus anther 50 Bt each for school incidentals then a hit of 10,000 X 2 each for school fees. plus Uniforms and Books, 2000 Bt transport to school etc. And a myriad of expenses that the little darlings need on regular basis, and one keeps on telling yourself " yes! well they are worth it"

My wallet only opens once a month maybe twice.

    First of every month,
    Pay rent
    Pay electric
    Pay water
Fill pickup with diesel and scooter with petrol
Put 1000b on my phone and 300b on the missus's
Pull 40k from the bank, 15k for shopping (see below), with the balance (20k for me and 5k for the missus) for what ever spendings.
First Saturday of every month do the grocery shopping at Makro and Foodland and beer/ciggies at the local mom and pop wholesaler,l anything like milk/bread/veggies needed during the month are purchased from the local market/ 711/continetal bakery out of what ever spendings

Assuming we are talking literally, I very rarely open my wallet. I carry my dosh in my pocket and only keep the largest of the Thai notes in my wallet as the safety money.

Careful, all those chocolate pies, sweet buns, gooey donuts, generic bubbly drinks, and deep-fried goodies from Tesco's might make them plumpers.
Avoid it like the plague. They get fat just driving past it. Stick to fare that made their momma such a stone-cold hottie.

Crickets and coconuts. Buy'em in bulk.

I am given a handful of shiny coins each day and told to go and play. it works for me.

Sometimes I even remember where I spent them and what on. Bliss.

Sometimes I even come back with more that I was given! Not often though.

This probably comes closer to reality.
You'll find that most of the households amongst us, the good missus looks after day-to-day expenses [including pocket money] quite nicely - aside from all this surfaced macho/patriarchal talk.

    Only kidding.

Wait until you've just filled the Lear Jet and the little man knocks on the window, shows the bill and asks for you credit card.

Let the strategic oil reserve rip I say.

I'm gonna have to get rid of the red head "flight attendant" she's getting a little too uppity.

    Sweeping generalisation based on what?
You, or Thai couple, mixed race, with or without children, living here or in the west? Which socioeconomic demographic are you referring to?
Any peer reviewed research to back up your assertions Jeff?

All i ask is that my wallet contains enough dosh for a round of golf and a few chilled beers following the quite demanding walk in warmer climes.

Other financial matters are secondary in my life.

The graphics are again buggered on my pc but the repair will have to fit around my golfing schedule. It's tragedy's such as this that can stress a man to the point where an extra couple of beers becomes obligatory.
