What to do about my dog

Well we are down to 3 dogs at the moment, the attrician rate here is pretty high, but "my" dog, the biggest oldest one has started biting people.

He's not a nasty dog, in fact I've never actually even seen him growl at anyone and has never even looked like biting anyone while I've been around. None the less he has biten quite a few people.

1st, one of the local kids was climbing on the back of the motorbike with my misses, we think the dog percived this as an atack and bit the boy.

2nd, Local bloke playing with my nephew, same sort of senario as above.

3rd woman while waiting outside for my mother-in-law to open up the shop, tried the doors, she was outside on her own, so he bit her.

Now on the one hand the dog is supposed to "look after" the place so really is just doing his job, on the other I'm worried that this is becoming a habit. An expencive one at that as we have to pay for all the jabs for the people it's biten. If we just had a house I'd put a sign up, but with the shop there are people in and out all the time.

If I was around when it bit someone I'd give it a good beating, but there is little point after the event as the dog would'nt know what its for.

I could keep it tied up, but I recon it would go crazy as it has been free all the time. other options are, having it put down, giving it to the local wat or looking for a muzzle. It's not a house dog, living outside and does a great job of keeping all the other dogs away

    Anyone with any ideas ?

The viscious bastard 2 doors down from me that ate my cat and would eat anything else if it was allowe out of the garden has been muzzled at my request.

Actually I had requested they put it down, but the owner thought the muzzle was a compromise.
Not sure how they affect a dog's wellbeing, but they sure aint ging to bite anyone.

my parents put down their dog a couple of months ago because of aggressive behaviour.

its a shame because she was ok 99% of the time. but without warning she would just snap and become the dog from hell. they had got her from the RSPCA - real mixed breed with incredibly powerful mouth and neck.

No, leave him alone. The locals will learn to stay away from him.

When we were kids and everything was not so politically correct, you learnt which dogs to skirt.

It just a nip as far as I can see, but does draw blood, he a bit of a lump of a dog a serious bite, would be worse.

that would be fine except that it does'nt do trade much good in the shop.

Is there any way of training him out of it ? It would be a shame to get rid of him. He's sort of the alpha male of the village, keeps all the other dogs away, plus anyone would think twice about wandering around here at night

How about castration, that usually calms them down a bit.

Never suggested putting a dog down and not about to start now, but you could end up in serious doodoo if he nips or even growls at the wrong person.

If the dog is biting hard enough to draw blood then that should be enough of a hint that something needs to be done.

I'll be honest with you if it was my child the dog bit then you'd either kill the thing or I would.

Any dog that is a serious danger to children should be put down, i think.
Kids do get seriously maimed and killed sometimes.

It realy is not a nice thing to have to do but if you cant keep the dog locked away in a kennel with a run then the above needs to be done .

This dog could hurt/ kill someone and cause you big problems .

Keep it sounds like a bloody good dog my old Thai dog bit 3 people all Thai males all in my yard . It use to be good if they tried to pick anything up from my yard he would have them. Any sudden move and he would go them. But at the same time the dog loved kids/Ladys and Monks
This is just a Thai dog that nips not a bloody pit bull
just make sure you keep his shots up to date

Is this dogs behaviour going to affect visitors to your shop and therefore your earnings.

If i was a regular customer and there was a dog around that had bitten 3 people I would stop coming to your shop. This is farang reasoning and logic though.
Thai's maybe dont even make that conclusion

I would muzzle it first, as killing a dog is a bit extreme (hell, they're only Thais).

    Could it eat a child?

If it could actually consume a whole child you might have a small problem

If it could only eat an arm or a leg then I wouldn't worry too much as they regrow.
