    Use of Google

During an evening whilst here in Bali on holiday, I was feeling a little under the weather.
Sat back, sipped a cold Bintang and listened to the conversations around me. It wasn't, long before I noticed how quick youngsters whipped out their smart phones to veryfy almost anything said. Is Google the oracal for all now ? Does no one read books, newspapers etc and form their own opinions anymore ?

I have 13 year old twins. The answers to your questions are: Yes. and No. (And I Googled that just to make certain.)

You have to understand the concept.

When you say does nobody read books or papers anymore of course they do. online. Google is a portal to most books and papers on the planet

Google's just a search engine, and I use several. I also have a small library of text books to refer to and look forward to reading the newspaper most mornings over a pint after breakfast.

google is a good index for the manuals

and it is best to RTFM before you break it

before you ask a question you should JFGI

many times I have been asked - how do I do X on a computer
so I say , come and I will show you how I work out the answer
first I go to google and type in " how do I do X " and then I read and read and read , then try , then read etc
then they think it looks too hard , so I tell them to fcuk off back to watching television
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

Actually thanks to IMDB those "He was in that...." arguments have disappeared.

And Soundhound has buggered up guessing who did a song.

Pub quizzes are fucked now, you see people slipping out to the bog or peering under the table all the time.

Standard OP for highly paid IT "professionals". I have made many a penny by knowing just one more chapter than the next guy.

Google is dual purpose. Not only does it provide subject matter from a number of different sources, but it also delivers porn. Can your local newspaper do that?

    ^^

    Or the Sunday Sport.

But both are high on editorial content, less on fact reporting. And the news/porn are what they want to report/show. Where else can a discerning punter like yourself find American Chicks with Dicks dressed as Batman?

I'm not saying that's what you like to search for... But Google confirms it.

    You sick bastard.
Some people think it don't, but it be.

    I think you're getting it.

You can go from 'authorised' news sources to 'conspiracy' with a few clicks. Two clicks later you have interracial, amputee, scat porn.

That's the bit you like best.

As with all "facts" if you search long enough, via Google or a Library of books, you will ultimately find somebody to corroborate your viewpoint. The hard part is to convince doubters of the accuracy and validation of the so called facts.

At least some are interested enough to do some research before quietly dropping their eyes after the breakfast pint.
