Real beer.
Not the Aussie, Dutch, Seppo or German crap, but real, hand-drawn English beer.
I really must get round to making my own.
Quality Sunday newspapers. Ones that require a whole Canadian Redwood for one edition.
None at all, but in my experience that has been the case.Originally Posted by mad_dog

Back off Margaret, you're on a sugar rush!

Until this last month I would have agreed with you. My recent experiences with two hospitals and several doctors in the last four weeks leads me to have a different opinion.Originally Posted by Mr Earl

I went back on a follow up visit and as I walked in, they said, "you need to have a blood test" befre I eve saw a doctor or had anyone explain what the fuck was gong on with ll them other tests.Walked right out the fuckin' door.
They poked, prodded insisted on keeping me in the hospital for "up to" 5 days for observation. During this time I was treated with all the respect and given the same information as a lab rat. Not one of the doctors could speak English nor did they look over 25 years old.
I did get a nice shot of morphine suitable for someone half my weight but a large bag of Tramadol prescribed in double dose was a nice bonus...
I rarely visit a doctor; this is a lesson learned, I will refuse to speak Thai when going to the doctor from now on, should increase my chances of getting one with at least some decent training.
But the question was; what do I miss about the west? Availability of good books.
Several second-hand bookshops run by an US expat in C.M., so I heard.
yeah, George has his Gecko books, there are a few others as well. Still not quite up to the variety you'll find in the States by a long shot. Basically you get what the tourists bring on their trips. lots of popular novels some new age stuff (not all of it bad) and Thailand tales.
I've got a friend with a library card at CMU; even the books there, shit for choice.
Just download them off the web. Loads of e-books there. Just load into a PDA and you're all set.Originally Posted by friscofrankie
