Well, I've got the route pretty much sorted now. Apart from that, it is hard to work full time and organize something like this. So yep, there are a lot of areas where we don't have a clue. That's part of the fun of it.

    I must be getting old?

Why listen to music? If that's what you want to do why not just sit in a Tuk-Tuk outside Hualampong for eight hours a day for two weeks listening to your I-Pood.

Oh Ok I understand. You'll need them because it will take a week to figure out how to get Tuk-Tuks on said passenger ferry from Penang. Or while waiting a week for the tramp steamer to get tuk-tuks from Penang to Belawan.

Better when you get there (or before), fit said tuk-tuks with a CD player and buy local music CD's as you go. That way you will experience the local music as well. 99% of them will be crap but....

    Sabai thinks
On google maps, it looks like there's only one road that goes all the way down in Sumatra, you can't really go wrong, unless you get kidnapped, which looks a good possibility
That's because Google maps of Sumatra are sh1te. There are two primary routes that split outside Medan one goes down the east coast to Pekanbaru then inland through Jambi the other goes through the middle and a bit west towards Padang and Bengkulu.

He's likely to fall in lust at the wayside inns but not kidnapped.
Better to think inside the pub, than outside the box?
I apologize if any offence was caused. unless it was intended.
You people, you think I know feck nothing; I tell you: I know feck all

Padang food can be found all over Sumatra and Java, no need to go to Padang jsut for the food.

KW did a thread about Padang and Bukktiinggi, one of the biggest issues in Sumatra is the condition of the roads and underestimating the times to travel them.

Yes, we will hopefully be able to do a daily video for youtube. The only constraint will be wifi access.

The start to finish event is 14 days but they give you 21 days with out extra tuk tuk rent in case you get lost or have a serious tuk tuk breakdown.

You should take Sir Wilson up on his kind offer Fresh Prince.

As SW says South Jakarta is part of the city, and has a good bit of entertainment available. I used to live in Kemang and Cilandak and there was no shortage of bars and restaurants.

Cracking road trip by the way, i hope you have a great time.
    Looking forward to the photos.

    Hi everyone!!!!!

I'm back and I completed the race all the way to Jakarta.

We didn't set out to win the race but guess what! We bloody won it!

I'll start a day by day up date with all the photo's tomorrow when I get all the pics back. There was no internet in Sumatra or Malaysia so I couldn't update on the fly.

Here's a video of me on TV in the mean time, the presenter was really fit.

It's bloody good to be home though. That was the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.
