Alastair Cook: Highest individual score at the Gabba
Cook & Trott: highest partnership for England in Australia
Cook & Trott: highest partnership for any team at the Gabba
World record 517 runs per wicket in the innings
Only the second time occasion Englands top three have all scored a century in the same innings

Bugger!
Full credit to you guys. No doubt.
But declaring with a lead of 250 for a session is just silly. No chance, therefore Aussies only have to defend. No chance for either team to win.
There's two ways of looking at it, declaring earlier so that the Aussies have a chance of reaching the total and therefore are forced to go for it, which means your bowlers have a chance too.
But risky.
Otherwise. stay in the whole day, demoralise us more, tire out our bowlers for the next match.

I agree with both above posters , Punter's playng sublime now , our quicks are expending energy with only 3 days to Adelaide etc. We should have batted the day out.

Lets hope the pitch at Adelaide offers the bowlers some thing.
Cook played 28 hours of the test match. Well deserved man of the match.
Question to Aussies:
Do you think you will make changes for the 2nd test ?
Can someone translate this to English?Punter's playng sublime now , our quicks are expending energy with only 3 days to Adelaide etc.
Clarke has to have quite a question mark hanging over him .Originally Posted by daveboy
I think punter proved the track was a batsmens paradise, which took away the 'glory' of the draw for the poms.
The way the barmy army were shouting, you'd think they had won the series!
It's so 'english' to get so excited about a draw
no real moral victorys here. Neither team could take 20 wickets. Infact, both teams could only take 11 wickets each.
Both teams should be looking at their bowling going into Adelaide. Bollinger will be in for Australia, and Anderson was the only pommy bowler to really truoble the Aussies, although his figures don't suggest this. Swann was bowling pies, and Finn was more lucky than skillfull to get his 6'fer.
I need an interpreter
Let's remember shall we that Australia have to WIN the Ashes back. They should have won this test and they know it. To salvage a draw is one thing, but to incinerate Australia's bowlers from that position is a huge psychological advantage to England. The Barmy Army are entitled to take the piss.
So now Australia will be wary of letting England bat first. Having said that, if the Adelaide groundsman lives up to his word, I don't care who wins the toss:
I must admit, flat tracks would probably make this series a forgone conclusion of D-D-D-D-D, so let's hope he lives up to his word."It will be a traditional Adelaide Oval pitch. My aim is to have a bit in it on day one for the quicks and then it should settle down for the batsmen on days two and three," said Hough.
"By days four and five we should see some of the natural characteristics of the pitch come through, which will probably see it crack and open up for the spinners."
Finn took six wickets. You don't call that troubling the Aussies then?Anderson was the only pommy bowler to really trouble the Aussies
