England need to win three tests against India to qualify.

ICC World Test Championship: New Zealand qualify for final, India, England and Australia in 3-way race

ICC World Test Championship: Despite their tour of South Africa getting postponed due to Covid-19 fears, Australia are not out of the race for the Lord's final. The 4-Test series between India and England will determine which of these 3 sides will join New Zealand in the final in June.

^ that is a tall order, what ever the result i hope its not a runaway series and there are some close matches. Its going to be an interesting spin challenge that is for sure.

But it is a good incentive for both teams to go for the win rather than fanny about grinding out draws.

^ agreed and India with a spinning surface can be a true test, a team that grew up on spin vs 70% of one who can't pick or play it. There will be some puzzled expressions on show as batsmen walk off

Australia's proposed tour of South Africa has been cancelled, blaming an inability to agree on Covid-19 guidlines.

The jaapies have already proven they are incapable of the logistics required.

And I'm sure the jaapie variant has a huge amount to play in the decision.

excellent news but checking schedules on C4 i cannot see it...yet.

Channel 4 to broadcast India vs England series on free-to-air TV

Starting with the opening Test from Chennai on Friday, ball by ball coverage of all four Tests will be shown live on Channel 4 and All 4

Channel 4 have secured the rights to broadcast the upcoming India vs England Test series on free-to-air television.

Starting with the opening Test from Chennai on Friday, ball by ball coverage of all four Tests will be shown live on Channel 4 and All 4.

Highlights will also be made available on All 4.

This will mark the first time Test cricket has been broadcast live on terrestrial TV since the iconic 2005 Ashes series.

Channel 4’s Chief Content Officer Ian Katz said: “This is fantastic news for all cricket fans in the UK. It’s been a long 16-year wait for the return of live Test cricket to free to air television but it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“What better antidote to the lockdown blues than an England Test series in sunny India.”

Channel 4’s Head of Sport Pete Andrews added: “We’re delighted to be showing live Test cricket on Channel 4 again and given the recent performances of both sides this series is poised to be a cracker.

Eng won the toss and batted. Apart from a disappointing duck for Lawrence, I'm sure England will be happy with 263/3, and another terrific Root innings of 128 n.o.

^ It is a flat pitch but even so Eng played well, saw off the Indian strike bowlers and then took toll on the second string. Great knock by Root again, he really is playing well and was excellent to watch, shame for Sibley getting out at the close but he set the platform and should be proud of that.

Trouble is we've been here before when Eng got over 400 in the first innings only for India to rack up over 700 and then beat Eng. I feel we need at least 450-500 and this pitch is going to crumble from day 3 on.

Come on LoyToy, the Oz are recording the Root knock for a training vid

No doubt he is in good form and seeing the ball well.

Having said that he has failed miserably in the ashes matches.

When is the next ashes series?

Stokes and Root are looking good.

It's looking like it could be one of those 'old school' totals from India tours of yore right now.

I just hope we don't have the 'old school' result of a draw.

Not sure England's spinners can outdo the Indians, maybe Jofra and Jimmy can work some magic.

Or maybe that red soil wicket will crumble.

    404/4

England did win the toss, so perhaps they were thinking exactly that.

Root's gone, I'd be tempted to smack it about a bit and try and have a go at them for the last part of the day.

    555/8 at stumps.

The Scorchers are running out of balls.

    Added: And wickets.

So India bat day 3 and as i mentioned if the surface really crumbles its going to be a cracking day to watch and a real test for our spinners against a team who've grown up playing it. Looking forward to Jimmy bowling like a metronome and seeing if Archers extra pace can unsettle the openers. Can't wait.
