Yesterday I thought S.A. were going to make a game of it and it looked possible a couple of times but good to see England pull through. They still have a few questions to answer in the early order batting line up though...

They are trying to bring in new blood, and it's good that they're sticking with it.

Let's face, a series against the Windies should be a whitewash given their current form.

    Agreed.

The new boys had better shake a leg against the WINDIES though. A top five with three gaping holes in it can only mean one thing on an ashes tour.

The Aussie cricketers are getting their money and are now eating pie floaters and drinking VB just to get in the swing of things because they know a whitewash against the Poms is on the boards.
The best part of the Poms touring is the Barmy Army still singing and taking defeat in their stride.

I suspect it will be the convicts that are experiencing squeaky bum time.

No-one likes losing on home soil.

I've never been to an Ashes series since my Dad passed ... and that was a long time ago.

Looking forward to going to the Gabba early December and standing with the Barmy Army and joining in the Fun.
Will have to learn the songs though

Well we have another interesting test match, with the Windies bowling out England for 258, and that was looking out of reach earlier; several crucial drops let England off the hook.

England are taking the last hour to bowl at them, and Jimmy has just taken a wicket, so the Windies are 11/1.

Bishoo is in as a night watchman with 18 minutes to play.

Well the Windies have pulled it right around after the first test.

They are ahead of England with only 3 wickets down.

    279/3.

Without Root and the Kiwi ring-in the Poms look pretty shit.

Now let's look at the Aussie shit!

    England aren't doing much better.

3 wickets down in the second inning and they're still behind.

Well a sort of fight back from us poms, 243/4 and lead by 74, but they need to keep in and keep scoring to give themselves a chance.

The match is looking nicely set for a certain Brummie Muslim to take it by the scruff of the neck again.

339/7 and a lead of 164. They need to get another 100 or so to give themselves a good chance.

Finely balanced, just got Brathwaite for 95, two balls before tea.

Windies 197/3, they have 37 or 38 overs to get to 322.

Superb catch by the substitute fielder.

    246/4. 76 to win. 22 overs.

    Great test match.

Hope knocks a tremendous century to match the one in the first innings.

31 off a minimum of 10 overs, England need wickets now (or a lot of maidens).

    6 off 6 overs.

    They think it's all over.

    So do I.

Well a terrific performance from the Windies and a superb test match. Blackwood out at the death for 41, but they only needed 2 to win at that point so it was a foregone conclusion.

Root could have batted on and made it impossible for either side to win, but had the bollocks to declare, but even then it set a massive task to the Windies.

They've batted superbly and thoroughly deserve the win.

England may rue some dropped catches, but both teams had their share and that's why the match was so close.

England win by 5 wickets, and if Hope isn't man of the match there is something badly wrong.

Great cricket and on to Lords we go for the decider on September 7th.
