More poaching. Aussie to open for the poms.

It is a story of modern mobility. After being born in Sydney and representing Australia Under-19s, Sam Robson departs for Sri Lanka a week today with the England Lions and, after the calamitous Ashes, Alastair Cook’s opening partner in this summer’s Tests may well be a 24 year-old with an Australian accent.
    Oh the shame!!

Moved there when he was 12 and learned his trade in England. He's a pom in my books, and you can tell that by his accent.

This Aussie guy on the other hand played under 19's for Oz. Totally different scenario.

Bob and I have discussed this in length, and my thoughts are there should be a 7/8 year gap required when changing countries after you have played at international level - even under 19's. I think Bob said the current rule is 3/4 years, which makes it too easy IMHO. It should be made bladdy tough to switch countries once you have played most of your cricket elsewhere.

I don't think it should matter unless you represent the full national team. There are too many of these stoopid "Under nn" competitions these days.

It's a difficult subject, no doubt. Many of Australia's Olympic athletes speak with thick foreign accents, but through the current system, they can legally represent Australia by jumping through the appropriate hoops. Our soccer team is largely made up of immigrants too.

Should cricket be any different? Well, the PC side of me says it shouldn't be. I suppose I just feel the game would become a farce and less interesting if national teams import players instead of producing them.

England does it far more than any other country, and considering their domestic county league has many more domestic players than most countries, it surprises me each time they poach players. And I think 'poach' is an appropriate word, as there is no doubt up and coming players are ear marked as future prospects, and are made eligible to play for England by putting them into the system as soon as possible.

^ he's not going to SA either.

Marsh also injured - hopefully that means we can replace him with somebody who can bat in the SA squad.

Stuart Broad says tourists have 'scary' T20 line-up

Australia v England: Stuart Broad says tourists have 'scary' T20 line-up as Big Bash stars give side a lift

Stuart Broad takes over the England captaincy on Wednesday having won Australian respect for the way he has handled weeks of abuse, with a little help from Sir Alex Ferguson.
The Ashes was Broad’s best overseas series, with 21 wickets at 27 apiece, despite being targeted by the crowds at every ground, and the confidence he gained from bowling well in a losing cause should add mettle to his captaincy for three Twenty20 matches in six days.

Broad said: “I’ve actually got a picture on my phone from Alex Ferguson’s autobiography. He talks about the United fans booing Patrick Vieira, and how Vieira should take that as one of his biggest compliments. I have had that in the back of my mind throughout this tour.
“Deep down I have sort of enjoyed it a bit. I don’t think it has made any difference to my personal performance. I’ve quite enjoyed going down to fine-leg and singing along. It has not been evil abuse. It has just been a bit of banter at the cricket. I have not taken it to heart and I think the most important thing is that it has not had an impact on my performance.
“I have gone out for meals and stuff in Australia and people have come over and said they like the way I play my cricket and I play like an Australian. I think seeing people out of cricket grounds has made me feel at home in Australia as I don’t think there is a general hatred for me. There is just sporting banter.”

I guess a Cumbrian accent counts as English...oh what do you say?...it isn't a Cumbrian accent...golly gosh...but that is where he spent his youth...his is a Kiwi accent brushed up English style...it happens all the time...Kiwis talk so fast they have to slow down and pick up the English style quickly.

    England retain The Ashes

Women’s Ashes 2014: England retain trophy with Twenty20 win

Women's Ashes: First Twenty20 international, Hobart

England 151-1 (17.5 overs) beat Australia 150-3 (20 overs) by nine wickets

    Match scorecard

England have retained the Women's Ashes after winning the first Twenty20 international by nine wickets to take an unassailable lead in the series.

Skipper Charlotte Edwards (92 not out) and Sarah Taylor (50 not out) saw them home with an unbeaten stand of 114.

Earlier, Australia skipper Meg Lanning (78 not out) won the toss and added 67 for the fourth wicket with Ellyse Perry (29 not out) as the hosts made 150-3.

England lead the multi-format series 10-4 with two T20 games remaining.

In the end, it proved a stroll in the Hobart sunshine for Taylor and Edwards - ranked first and third in the International Cricket Council's T20 rankings - as Australia's bowlers had no answer to the determined second-wicket pair, who rounded off the victory with 13 balls to spare

I'd like to feel pleased about that but an Ashes Series that involves T20 and ODI's means I can't.

at least they won the test match which I believe is weighted more in the contest and rightly so.

oh, the shame of it all, even basil brush would say ..enough. enough..boom boom.
even watching the womens cricket, at a level that is representing your country
they are hopeless, at the best local club games talent, makes you wonder when women are good at a lot of sports from tennis to swimming etc , why are they so
    bad at cricket.
