Really??? you think he'd go on just to get to that milestone?Originally Posted by Bruce Bayliss
Funny... that really goes against everything I've heard about him......
Ant, Bruce is clueless, he think's you are talking about.....
Agree, I'm a bit past this sort of humour myself as well......
Many would call him an over rated sniveller...but I couldn't possibly commentOriginally Posted by AntRobertson
Many could call him that, but I guarantee few if any of his peers and contemporaries in international rugby would. You don't have to like or respect him to appreciate his ability on the field.
The often standard KIwi attitude to O'Driscoll is really rather weak and pathetic......
Rather like the way that a rape victim gets dealtt with in court.......
I'm glad to say that a real rugby man like AR is above that childishness......

I freely admit to being a BOD fanboy and having a large man-crush on him but nobody plays that number of tests and scores that many points - mostly against tier 1 nations at that - if they are a bunny.
I think that the issue some Kiwis have is that they never really saw him perform to his potential in NZ either through injury or lack of form and judge him solely on that. Which really just means they need to watch more rugby.

I don't much like the fella and his Irishness, but that's just my prejudices; he was a superb player, a great ambassador for the game and has an opinion which seems mixed with a heavy dose of reasoned comment. There really isn't much not to respect about his playing and public persona, imho.
Now, back to playing: I hope the Welsh and Irish put out their first teams and have a right go at each other...
Cycling should be banned!!!
Yes, illegally knock him out of a series and then claim he didn't perform well in it.....Originally Posted by AntRobertson
On that subject many many Kiwis make themselves look stupid....
Yep...haven't seen it so it didn't happen...got injured?...stiff shit...this isn't a game for powder puffs...Willie John McBride had the attitude...he would have called 99 at the next lineout...got all the Munster monsters to belt any All Black standing...and then got on with the game. Willie was the only one I can think of who ever got the better of Colin Meads...he hit him late...he hit him early...he hit him high...he hit him low...and then got on with the game...no snivelling and they ended up friends for lifeOriginally Posted by AntRobertson

^ yeah, BOD wasn't always outstanding in every game (I suppose very few players are); he excelled against the French, certainly showed magic against the Convicts and us people over in God's country.
Centres can get lost for games on end; SBW, who has obviously shown he is a talented union centre, has been shite on recent games; other players like Conrad Smith and that old Convict centre don't always score amazing tries from 50 metres, but put in so much good work to enable players around them - I think BOD did a lot of the hard graft too, and still had moments of magic.

I was also just thinking that he managed to excel even when playing with some pretty average teams which is a mark of class (let's face it, some of those Ireland sides particularly early on in his career were a bit shit)
I cannot recall an Irish rugby team that was worthy of being called shite...they always play hard and with guts...and down here anyway have always been highly respectedOriginally Posted by AntRobertson
Far more importantly than those Irish... England have named their first team for the France game this weekend, and the French are good, so it should be a real battle. I'm not confident...
