    Changing IP on your computer

having some connection problems the IT guy shook his head and said he needs to reset the IP on my laptop. since its the weekend he has no time so am planning on fiddling with it myself, any ideas how to do this?

running the problem solver in control panel isn't working and i flushed the C drive as he said also.

no probs connecting on the mobile from here.

Re-boot your router will assign you a new ip.

If that doesn't work then go into your browser settings and see what your network connections are set at.

The IT Guy shook his head?

    What a fucking idiot.

Turn your router off and turn off the laptop.

Then turn on the router, and give it a few minutes for all the lights to come on.

    Then turn on your laptop.

Do you have anything else connected to the router? Shut those down as well.

Well the first thing you need to do is reset the router. You can start by telling us what country you're in and what make and model it is.

I think I'd still prefer him trying to fix it than ButtPlug though.

The easiest way is to type cmd into the run box to bring up the command prompt
then type in ipconfig /release that will clear the ip you have been assigned
then type ipconfig /renew and it will give you a new ip address.

This is assuming of course that you have a dynamic ip, you can check that by going to the control panel>network connections, right click on the active connection, hit properties, then scroll down on the 'General' tab to 'internet protocol (TCP/IP)' highlight it and hit properties, the next prompt should be set to 'obtain ip address automatically' and 'obtain DNS server automatically'..

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!"

Getting sensible computer advice from Buttplug is like asking Linda McCartney for a good steak and kidney pie recipe.

Ignoring Buttplug's usual insane ramblings, can I guess that you are with QTel?

And what make/model of Router is it?
