I don't think I am getting my points across very well!

Given the age of the XP disk in the OP it is possible that it would not include SP1 and therefore not have SATA support that a newer laptop will probably need for installation.

And also you can't use an XP disk that came with a Compaq to install Windows onto a Toshiba for example, the manufacturers tie the disk they supply to their hardware, unless it is a just a vanilla XP from MS and not an OEM version.

With all that plus the security implications of connecting an unpatched 7 year old XP to the webs then JJ is probably better off just going to Panthip and getting a new disk with XP SP3 and SATA imho.

But hey, he can give it a shot, certainly wouldn't be the first time I've been wrong about something as my mate Butterfly will no doubt be along to point out shortly

why all this strange discussion about the XP install disk

first point , if it is xp home toss the disc
if it is xp pro , copy the numbers and then toss the disc

find a copy of xp pro with all the latest service packs and updates on a torrent tracker , d/load it and burn a disc

install , kill the wga sh1t and change the number to your number you own
If you torture data for enough time , you can get it to say what you want.

never claimed to be a WinXP specialist, Wintard. SATA is not only a connection system, it replaces the old IDE interface doesn't it ? Why don't you learn something new with the link below ? and why does it need a driver if there is no difference between SATA and non-SATA, tard ?

Install Windows XP on SATA without a Floppy (F6) - No Floppy...no Windows on SATA? Wrong! - Softpedia

Windows XP does not provide drivers for all the SATA controllers, therefore, during the installation procedure, the user must insert a floppy with the drivers that came in the package along with the motherboard.

Not a big deal, not much effort, but the funny thing is that a great number of people passed on their floppy drives. Under these circumstances, no floppy means the impossibility to install Windows XP on SATA (on some mainboards). The result? The installation guide simply won't detect the SATA HDD.

you are the shit one, let me explain it for you in simple terms, tard

    SATA != PATA != IDE

    SATA needs drivers,

WinXP Install disk = SATA drivers missing
WinXP Install disk = no understand USB for additional drivers
WinXP Install disk = understand floppy for additional drivers

Solution: Floppy or re-compile Installation with nLITE

Download nLite 1.4.9.1 - Remove Windows components like Media Player, Internet Explorer, Outlook Express and more - Softpedia

Now do tell buttfly, as already mentioned before, why don't you go to a good torrent, download XP SP3 and kill WGA? Why make such a long story to make an old system "new"?
Supposed you had downloaded Win 7 RTM you'd been given a key that is valid till next June.....
