    Blackberry Question

Tomorrow I'm getting a Blackberry but my current service provider is DTAC and I've heard that they don't do a Blackberry service.

The obvious option is to change to AIS but I don't want to change my number.

Does anyone know a way of getting around this?

I was talking to a bloke in the pub last night and he started telling me about how you can have 2 providers but he was drunk and the conversation turned to a cute little thing in the bar and he never finished the story. Has anyone heard of this?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Just had a similar issue, changed from True to AIS Blackberry. No way to keep my old number though unfortunately.

Not so sure about DTAC not having a Blackberry service though; you may want to check with them direct.

Thinking back to last night you could be right. I think the issue might have been that its a shit deal with dtac.

How much are the monthly fee's for the 2 you mentioned and are there better benifits between the 2?

At the moment I pay only 300bt a month and get 20 min free calls to any network with DTAC.

Honestly couldn't tell you sorry. Basically what happened is that I got a Blackberry from my Co., it's already on AIS but we are currently seeking quotes from them and DTAC (I think?) for a seperate, dedicated, Blackberry server - currently it's push-mail through Yahoo or something.

I'm pretty sure True has Blackberry but for what we wanted they only service and support BKK so that ruled them out (I'm in CM). Also we're getting a contract package for 30+ users so the per/user price is slightly lower (free phones on the contract but). I'll check some more specifics tomorrow if you like, let you know then.

Yes, this is quite normal behavior for the male species, dont take it personal, the male species often have more blood circulating in their penis, not their brains. It is perfectly normal to want 2 providers as well

Not at all, I had no real idea until recently myself (still really don't actually ).

In a nutshell it's basically an email enabled phone. Does all the things a normal phone does but is set up to receive and send emails far easier (for example it has a QWERTY keyboard layout).

"Blackberry" itself refers to the service and the phones (lots of models of them). From my understanding it's just starting off here in Thailand. You can't go very far on the tube in London say without seeing people puliing them out and doing emails on the way to/from work. Actually, it's a bit of a pain in that regard - I got an email from my boss earlier today - you've got the phone and the email right there, no real excuse not to reply.

Maybe 4/5 years ago. Most people have switched to HSDPA phones on a 3G network now.

Check out the new Samsung Omnia (i900). It's an iPhone killer, with none of the bugs and more features.

^ sorry! If you wanted connectivity in certain places you can buy a wi-fi phone like the iPhone, N95 or Omnia and connect to a wireless internet network.
Or Blackberry, those are your only options as Thailand hasn't got 3G.

Thailand is years away from a viable 3G network although it should be available in Bangkok within the next couple of years.

They have been planning it for ages.

^No problem, its still a new toy. I get shiney things syndrome a few times a year.

I've got staff who have been out and spanked 40 or 50 grand (can't remember) on the new iphone 3G. Waste of bloody money.

Not this time! I'm gonna get one of those rubber sleeves so that it can't fall out my pocket in taxi's and I've quit throwing phones at the sky train, its too expensive and a bit anti social.

Anyway, I've had this current phone a lot longer than you. You've gone through 2 in the same space of time.

I've just spoken to DTAC and they don't do a Blackberry service so looks like I'll have to get a new number.

So I rang AIS and from them its 300 baht a month on top of your regular package which I think is a pretty good deal.

Can anyone tell me what the regular service is like on AIS? i.e signal, blocked up lines, crazy random thai people calling you at 3 in the morning just to say "Henlo" "Henlo" "Henlo"

Just get a Wi Fi phone and use any network u like. I currently use Nokia E61i. Good for emails and surfing the net on the go. But you tire of that real quick. In the end it just becomes a big pain in the arse bladdy phone. Get one with a decent camera. That will get more use than fricken Blackberry for sure. Also it won't send SMS messages from abroad for some strange reason.
    Blackberry it's a false gimmick!

Samsung Omnia: Photo Gallery - Mobile Phones

I guess that would be a good up grade from the I phone. But for me the I phone has been the best surfing e mail phone I have used, always connected to my e mail account. It even got soaked in my bike jacket pocket on the weekend and still didnt miss a beat. One thing I would change is the shitty battery life

Shit sorry, totally forgot about this. Our IT guy has gone already so can't give you any price details (although I'm thinking the B350p/m actually sounds lower than what we were quoted).

Service is fine, haven't had any problems with it at all. Can be a bit of a pain to set-up the push-mail system (which is why we're transferring to the dedicated AIS system)
