Late night last night, grandson was boxing in Warrington.

    Another win under his belt.

Flobo had made a nice tasty stew for me prior to going out.

A good mixture of cooked vegetables, herbs and plenty of barley with a few tasty pieces of steak.

A few mashed potato's, topped off with pickled cabbage.

    Really tasty meal.
All the women take their blouses off
And the men all dance on the polka dots
    It's closing time !

Flobo made me a plaice meal.

A few peppers, tomato's, brocolli, potato's and fresh lemon to spread about a little.

She cooked herself some smoked Mackerel.

I had a taste. They were delicious.

I think I'll have some of those tomorrow.

    Yum. Smoked Mackerel are delicious.
A few years back the local fish vendor acquired some Spotted Mackerel in the wifes village way up country in Caiyaphum. I bought a few and hot-smoked them using an improvised smoker made out of a wok and an old piece of metal roofing as a lid. Coconut husks were used for the smoke source. Heat source was the old traditional clay pot charcoal burner. Turned out lovely.
The locals seemed to enjoy it too judging by the comments of "arroy" as they tucked into it.

    Cheers Panda,

I was going to have some Mackerel tonight, but Flobo has been baking today.

I had a busy day but should have taken some photographs of the process.

Not to worry. She made a few pies in individual pie bowls, steak,
steak and kidney, meat and potato, all sorts of concoctions.
She usually makes quite a few up and then freezes them.

She held a couple back today for tonights meal.

    Steak and kidney.

I'd been to the gym with my grandson, he was doing a nights
    training and sparring etc.

    I got home about 8PM.

What a brilliant tasty meal that was to come home to.

Flobo took a couple of Lemon Sole out of the freezer, which we bought at Fleetwood last week.

Couple of nice looking fish they were as well.

Cooked them slowly under the grill

Added a few tasty chilli's and yellow peppers to add to the flavour on my fish. A couple of tomato's.

It was all looking good after a little while.

Finished off and on the plate with a few boiled potato's, a small cob of best Irish butter, asparagus & corgettes.

A nice fresh lemon to squeeze over the fish.

    It was delicious.

    The fish absolutely superb.

Flobo was busy in the kitchen when I came in tonight.

Sliced potato's, layer of onions and repeat the levels,
garlic every now and then and a few shakes of spicy treats.
Cook everything slowly in the oven.

A nice rack of lamb roasting away gently cooking in it's own juices.

I notice there are complaints with regards to potato's in Thailand at present.

Pity, it's hard to enjoy a good meal without decent potato's.
We have had some really good potato's of late.

It looked nice when she had it all on the side ready for putting on the plates.

    Different angle shot.

She puts these fancy bits on the bone ends every now and then.

Served up with cauliflower, broccoli and a few peppers.

I think they call it a womans touch.

What a cracking meal it was.

There's some potato's, onions and all the other bits left in the oven,
Flobo's going to add a bit of this that and the other to
it and I'll have that for tomorrows lunch.

Yum Yum. I think you should invest in a bigger plate, mate. Perhaps not though. You'd have to visit the gym twice as often. Looks delicious.

When are you off to Bonnie Scotland?

    Hi Jandajoy

Probably tomorrow week. It's looking to be the best date so far.

Let you know for sure later in the week though.

    Nice meal tonight.

Flobo cooked some really nice Isle of Man Kippers. They were gorgeous.

One of those giant mushrooms stuffed with all sorts of concoctions,(garlic/cheese/chives, toasted crumbs, herbs and more) topped off with garlic, broccoli, boiled potato's and tomato.

    Super dooper meal.

Ah we're drinking and we're dancing
and the band is really happening
and the Johnny Walker wisdom running high
    And my very sweet companion
    she's the Angel of Compassion
she's rubbing half the world against her thigh
    And every drinker every dancer
lifts a happy face to thank her
the fiddler fiddles something so sublime
all the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
and it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops:
    it's CLOSING TIME

Yeah the women tear their blouses off
and the men they dance on the polka-dots
and it's partner found, it's partner lost
and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops:
    it's CLOSING TIME

    Ah we're lonely, we're romantic
and the cider's laced with acid
and the Holy Spirit's crying, Where's the beef?
And the moon is swimming naked
and the summer night is fragrant
with a mighty expectation of relief
So we struggle and we stagger
down the snakes and up the ladder
to the tower where the blessed hours chime
and I swear it happened just like this:
    a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
the Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
    but CLOSING TIME

I swear it happened just like this:
    a sigh, a cry, a hungry kiss
the Gates of Love they budged an inch
I can't say much has happened since
    CLOSING TIME

I loved you for your beauty
but that doesn't make a fool of me:
you were in it for your beauty too
and I loved you for your body
there's a voice that sounds like God to me
declaring, declaring, declaring that your body's really you
And I loved you when our love was blessed
and I love you now there's nothing left
but sorrow and a sense of overtime
and I missed you since the place got wrecked
And I just don't care what happens next
looks like freedom but it feels like death
it's something in between, I guess
    it's CLOSING TIME

Yeah I missed you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex
looks like freedom but it feels like death
it's something in between, I guess
    it's CLOSING TIME

Yeah we're drinking and we're dancing
    but there's nothing really happening
and the place is dead as Heaven on a Saturday night
    And my very close companion
gets me fumbling gets me laughing
    she's a hundred but she's wearing
    something tight
and I lift my glass to the Awful Truth
which you can't reveal to the Ears of Youth
except to say it isn't worth a dime
And the whole damn place goes crazy twice
and it's once for the devil and once for Christ
but the Boss don't like these dizzy heights
we're busted in the blinding lights,
    busted in the blinding lights
    of CLOSING TIME

The whole damn place goes crazy twice
and it's once for the devil and once for Christ
but the Boss don't like these dizzy heights
we're busted in the blinding lights,
    busted in the blinding lights
    of CLOSING TIME

Oh the women tear their blouses off the men they dance on the polka-dots
    It's CLOSING TIME

Flobo made me one of my favourite meals tonight.

I saw the shallow pie dish out and thought it might just be.

Then I saw the Grandma Singleton's strong Lancashire Cheese and just knew it.

The onions came into view and my taste buds were going into overdrive already.

It was looking really good so far.

I couldn't decide which was the better of these two cooked pie shots.

    Cheese and onion pie.

It's one of those treats of a meal which take some beating.

The added rasher or two of bacon especially added to the flavour.

    Smoked back bacon.

    What a meal.

Well I have to admit to being about 15 stone 7lbs at present.

I always put too much on when I spend winter at home especially and stopping smoking hasn't helped.

I'll get down to about 13 stone or so for mid summer.

    I hope.

One thing for sure, it's easier to put on than it is to take off.

Yes, we do eat healthy food. Copious amounts of fish and very little fatty meats.

    Health is an important issue.

In fact you get to a certain age in life, when the only important thing is staying here as long as you can.

I do a lot of cycling during the spring, summer and early autumn, it's dangerous doing it in the winter, be it for road/weather reasons or dark nights.

I obviously do not do enough manual labour in the winter either, and I put weight on easily.

    Alas!

However, I have regular medical check ups, cholesterol is OK 4.3 on the last count.
Heart and lung X-Ray three weeks ago showed no irregularities.

Blood tests showed everything OK except for thyroid gland, which is now being treated and may account for increase in weight?

I think eating red meat once a week is alright. Plenty of chicken, fish and a little pork.

Next to nothing with regards the booze.

Nothing to say, lightening won't kill me, a car crash, or any number of possible things with my number on it.

So it's best not to become pedantic and irrational about the perfect life-style.

I've noted for many years, that athletes and sport-people in general, do not all live to a ripe old age.

In fact they appear to pass away comparably young in general.

There's always going to be a few old codgers, smoking, drinking, existing on a poor diet, who will live to be a hundred plus.

It's a strange old thing, just being here!
