From sometimes talking with friends and family back home about such things, it's completely foked.

20% down needed for a mortgage and rents are so high that it's impossible to pay the rent and save the 20%.

Result: Professionals living in their parent's house until nearly 40 just to save up enough to get the down on a mortgage.

Then there are apparently refugees waltzing in and getting free houses, something like 10% of all housing projects must be handed over for government allocation.

Result: gangs out firebombing various properties. Possibly the professionals forced to live at home with their parents.


And now it seems they need to pay to annual fees to enter a supermarket.

Economic systems are generally rigged against young people. Tax and housing policies result in large transfers of wealth from the younger generations to the old-timers. Life is increasingly difficult for young folks. That's one of the principal reasons people are having fewer children.

Costco is good. I had a membership when I was in the US. Bought gasoline there then went shopping. Those rotisserie chickens are yummy and cheap! Those big bags of salad would last all week.

I also got a 2kg bag of live black shell mussels for $13. That's great value. 1kg would usually cost that. Chilli mussels and garlic bread coming up

There was a comparison of the average salary in Australia vs Britain but that doesn't tell much if you don't look
at the income tax.

What is your point in crying over all other taxes a citizen pays?
Paying VAT, road tax, fuel tax, electricity tax, jada jada is not something unique for Britain, they also have them in Australia.

And most, perhaps nearly all, governments don't collect enough tax. Year after year they are borrowing from young people without their consent. This can't continue forever. Taxation will get uglier.
