    The Pea Porn Thread

We have a bean thread, so why not a pea thread when we have Mendip (no need to regret not setting one up now )?

When given the option though, I would always choose beans over peas unless they have mushy peas...

...apart from when keema peas are in the house, of course!

Just wait until our Pakistani friends have worked out a way to get baked beans into their curries!

A nursery rhyme dating back to 1765, may be in order

    Pease pudding hot,
    Pease pudding cold,
    Pease pudding in the pot
    Nine days old;
    Some like it hot,
    Some like it cold,
Some like it in the pot,
    Nine days old.

    Nordic countries

Swedish ärtsoppa; Finnish hernekeitto; Danish gule ærter; Norwegian ertesuppe.

Nordic pea soup is normally cooked with pork – although the meat may sometimes be served on the side – and a typical recipe would also include onions and herbs like thyme and marjoram.
In Finland the soup is made of green peas; in Sweden, Norway and Denmark yellow peas are used.
    Denmark

In Denmark, pea soup is served with pancakes and the mustard is scooped up with rugbrød on the side. In addition, the dish is sometimes served with medisterpølse, boiled potatoes and pickled beets and often turned into a feast, with copious amounts of beer and snaps on festive occasions.[14]
In Denmark the dish can be dated to 1766 in written sources, but might have originated as early as the Bronze Age, when dried peas and cabbage became popular vegetables for the long winters there.

That's a grim looking very British diet , much as I like fresh peas from a garden I know why so many enjoy Thighland it is those spicy dishes, fiery legopeners and exotic fruits, but enough of our members

As for Danish pea soup in a land of rough shag burnt wine snapps and stimoralting licorice it is just a little something to allow kissing,
The Greenlamdic ladies hava that allure of herring, cod that. like Helge and as for Jutland to say it smells like Aakavit and molten Lego might be an exaggeration, but only juiced.

Fortunately the so fisticated Danes of VAnlose in the suburbs of Copenhagen have French Turkish, Spanish , Italian , Russian. Chinese Thai and Indian restaurants and ingredients galore, hardly saw a British restaurant anywhere.

Unlike the lightly more assertive Bar Stewards of Widderspoons, Little Malmo -in--the-Marsh

I asked could for mushy Mike's Mange Tout and Beryl ye barmaid asserted poddly

    PEAS ORF

Sweden of course has huge 10 foot peas sold at tobboganists that can be used by very cross khvnty skiers

These are beknown as Snow Peas

Dutch pea soup served with rye bread and smoked bacon (katenspek)
Erwtensoep (Dutch: [ˈɛrtə(n)sup]), also called snert (Dutch: [snɛrt]), is the Dutch version of pea soup. It is a thick stew of green split peas, different cuts of pork, celeriac or stalk celery, onions, leeks, carrots, and often potato. Slices of rookworst (smoked sausage) are added before serving. The soup, which is traditionally eaten during the winter, is emblematic of Dutch cuisine.

It is customarily served with Frisian rye bread (roggebrood) and bacon, cheese or butter. The bacon is usually katenspek, a variety of bacon which has been cooked and then smoked. Pancakes are sometimes served with pea soup; this dish is called snert met struif, struif referring to the pancakes.

In the Royal Dutch Navy the pea soup is completed with small cubes of lard which float as white squares on top. It is therefore referred to as Snert met Drijfijs (pea soup with floating ice).

So-called koek-en-zopie outlets, small food and drinks stalls which spring up only during winters along frozen canals, ponds and lakes in the Netherlands and cater to ice skaters, usually serve snert as a savoury snack.

In Suriname, a former Dutch colony, Dutch-style pea soup is eaten as a street food.

This popped up on YouTube the other day just as I was wondering what to do with the 1/2 bag of leftover green peas in the freezer. It was simple to make and tasty.
