    I've hit the Thai-Food wall!

I think I've finally hit the (cheap) Thai Food wall - that is I just cannot stomach it anymore , in fact just thinking about it right now is making me feel sick.
Only 2 wks ago I could revel in the taste of cheap deep fried dick sticks or even the fish pus balls but a recent dose of the shits has got me longing for some good old English fodder - ie>normal food - pasta , green veg etc..

Trouble is I have no kitchen so I have to eat at the cheap Thai places - tried everything on the menu and gone for more expensive things too , but it's all just the same - rice , chilli, hunt for Wally type pieces of meat and the customary splattered toilet bowl later.
I think it's almost time that I moved to a room/ flat with a kitchen so that I can sort my own stuff out.
I'm sure there must be some great Thai food out there , but WHERE?

Are there no western food joints near you (and I don't mean the undercooked chicken at KFC)?

Why don't you buy one of those electric woks. They're great and you can use them in your place quite easily.

Once you get off the street and out of shophouse family restaurants the food improves considerably but, naturally it costs more.

I've settled on a couple of dishes I like and the quality is consistant and I try and get them as often as possible.

Particularly keen on 'Jok' a rice porridge usually around at breakfast time.

yes, I suppose a lot of this is due to laziness on my part - just going to the same places and eating the same stuff every day .
I have tried the hit and hope method though - ie. just selecting a random dish off the menu and hoping for the best - hasn't been too successful so far.

Last thing I got was like dog's testicles stewed in sewage.

    Just have to keep looking.

I tend to stick with the curries or the minced pork, but I only usually eat Thai stuff for lunch and real food in the evening.

do you cook the real food or go to a restaurant?

there are a few western style places round where I live so I think I'll have to give them a try - what's the going rate for a bit of farang?

    that's a bit pricey - I've heard you can get a bit of ruskie - also heard they're a bit rough -
how often do you eat the white meat Mr Dog?

4000b - do they look anything like Anna Kournikova ? - should do at that price!

OY, I had a ruskie galfriend and she was as sexy as hell, she had a thai figure though, pert breasts with nice nipples and all that, she used to like sex out in the open, I assume her parents were farmers, but hell it was damn good.

the sweet croissant things with the sausage inside are the weird ones.

bit like taking a ladyboy home by mistake ....just when you're getting ready for a nice soft sweet flavour you suddenly get a lump of meat in your mouth! (not that I've experienced this for real of course)

I cook some thai food in perth, red and green chicken curries, and beef salads and chicken salads, issan food.
Most sundays I cook oysters and prawns and make chicken and beef salads with lashings of rice for friends.
One must have a staple diet of thai food that suits one, there is so much of it that this should not be difficult.

Damn 20 years ago when I was off Thai food I could find cheap western food, and now there are 100 times as many restaurants. Damn go to Jools on Soi 4 and you will be fine.

Perhaps you've been eating this same stuff too much and need some variety.

Vary your meals, and you may find yourself enjoying the "fried dick stick" or "fish pus balls" again.

I find that a good blast at the Pig and Whistle makes up for having to live with rice based tedium.

Since the cheap Thai place near my office has been taken over and the prices nearly doubled, I've been going to the Ramen place instead. Much, much better, but why the Japs are so thin is beyond me. You get shitloads for your 170 Baht.

I have the added problem in LOS in that I'm not a fan of noodles of any type so thats a big chunk out of my choice already gone.

I once had 3 months away from Western food of any sort. I will never forget the pig out I had when I got to Pattaya. The stuff of legend and song!

Yes. It is a lot, and much better tasting than pork noodles.

Can't dream of any noodle dish tasting better than Khao Soy. Two, maybe three 10 baht bowls of that, a 5 baht bag of fried pork rinds I'm happy. Thai food at it's best.

A big bowl (with the little ravioli things in it) costs me 30B and it tastes great, but I like the variety of Ramen. Also I get a full meal for 170B. Today's was a big portion of stir fried beansprouts, veges & pork - loads of broad grain rice, a salad, soup, and gyoza.

Prety good value I reckon (but not noodles I know! LoL!)

I've been living with a thai lady too long, man. Big spending with her is going to the 105 baht steak buffet. if I want to eat like that I gotta sneak out. (it's the only time I can tip as well!)
God love her, but she's a pain sometimes.
