Exactly what i was going for, no faff, easy christmas dessert that can be prepared in advance so on the day its just a quick assembly.

If you dont like pears then peaches and plums work well too

I would think apples might work too?

Yeah they would, just need the right type. Any hard or stoned fruit will. Pears are just the most common i guess
