Scientific Name : Anas strepera

General Characteristics : The tail edge is round. The male and the female have different color. The upper part of the body and the side of the body of the male are grey but the crown and the upper part of the neck are darker grey. The stomach is white, the bottom is black, the mouth is grey, and the leg and the finger are yellow. The body of the female has brown stripes, the stomach is white, the mouth is grey, and the side of the mouth is yellow. While floating, the white stripes on the wing can easily be seen.

Habitat / Food : Can be found in North America, Europe, Africa, the north of India, and China from the middle of the country to the north of Thailand.The food is plant and aquatic animal which are water fern, Potamogeton malaianus, algae, fish, shrimp, crab, and shell.

Behavior / Mating : Lives in the water source. It can be found in a small group and may stay together with other teal. The Gadwall normally floats or swims near the papyrus forest, and the grass forest which grows in the water. It sometimes swims in the area which there is no plant.There is no report of the nest building for laying the eggs of the Gadwall in Thailand.
