You're lucky. Mine weren't fast enough.
The posion bait was crap. They'd eat it and then go into the water tray under the fridge to drink, pee and poo. I was also frightened the dogs would find the poison. Even tho I put all foodstuffs in glass containers or in the fridge, the rats still came in to eat my travel soap bars. The cat solved the whole prob.
