Hoeven's Slender Carp

Leptobarbus hoeveni

Leptobarbus hoevenii or Pla Ba is a riverine carp that can be found most often in freely flowing rivers and streams and seasonally on flood plains.

They live in the Chao Phraya and Mekong River systems and in the Beungborapet Reservoir.

Although the fish are suitable for both pond and cage culture, there is only little local demand for the species as a food fish.

Pla Ba is therefore only being cultured on a limited scale for ornamental purposes.

The work of Varikul and Meenakanchana (1979) developed the methods used for controlling the breeding of the species in culture ponds.
