Not just bitters. Any brews that are not mass produced. About 40 years ago in England 4 teachers lamenting the demise of small breweries started a local broad sheet listing about 20 pubs out of thousands that still sold "real Ale" as opposed to the mega keg chemical stuff. It started a revolution. These small backwoods pubs became packed. It forced the big nationals to reverse policy and also spawned many small local companied to produce to a willing market. Became the thing to do.

So that is the reason I said Ale. Called themselves Campaign for real ale. So just wondering if any small LOS breweries.

I beg to differ.

What did happen was that micro-breweries got tax breaks though.

Problem for a small brewery in Thailand is that to keep a valid license it needs to distribute over 1 million litres. They also get stung on the equipment that monitors the production levels.

Yes, I know CAMRA; my mother had 2 CAMRA listed pubs.

I also know what large breweries are up to having dealt closely with one and now involved quite closely with one of the world's largest. Large breweries are not interested in minor real ale products. They only keep some of them going to give the impression that they are 'preserving tradition' in local markets. Ideally, they'd stop all that nonsense and get everyone drinking their generic lager piss.

Bloody hell 2 Camra pubs! I would never have left home I agree that the big boys only keep the real ale alive because they have to. Still without Camra becoming a voice to be heard the plastic pubs with their plastic beer would have become the only choice.

One of the few things I miss about the old country is the selection of beers you can find, many I'd never heard of before drinking them. We have some small micro breweries in BC but small and only in the Large Southern Cities. We have many types of larger Piss here from both sides of the border. As I said N. America is the inventor of taste free beer.

I do miss my mum's pubs. The first one had 13 real ales on tap; 8 of them changing after each cask was emptied. I actually had a good real ale lager once. It was good fun going along the row of taps with a shot glass seeing which one would be the tipple of choice for the evening. Even better was that I lived next door for about a year.

In her second pub, it had one of the best pint of London Pride outside of the Fuller's Brewery.

At Home it varies.

Sunny day in the garden; (once every 3 years or so) Cider. Stowford Press is a particular favourite.

On the piss - standard cooking lager. Carling or something like that.

Few quiet pints - guest ales, particularly like Bishops Finger, Abbot Ale or Brains Dark.

For beer drinkers on a budget
I have never tried Tiger Beer, but the 7/11 near us is selling four-packs (bottles) for 68 baht marked down from 135 baht.
Unsure if a national promotion.
Anyone?

Ladies with a sexy roar

Singha Corporation recently launched the sixth edition of the "Sexy Leo Girl" campaign with a press conference at Route 66 on RCA, under the concept "sexytainment" - sexy and entertainment.

The campaign is on a road show until June 18 with stops in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, Chanthaburi, Hua Hin and Bangkok. Three girls from each region will be picked and all 15 girls will initially receive Bt10,000.

The seven finalists will promote the campaign around the country and shoot a commercial for a leading magazine before going to the final round in November.

The winner will be the amb-assador for "Sexy Leo Girl Season 6" and receive Bt1 million.

Was in a British pub near Manila yesterday, and had a pint of IPA. Bit fruity at first, but by the third pint was going down quite well. Had never tried it before. Don't remember the brand, but they had several brands of IPA, all of which appeared to have been bottled in California.
