Great idea I reckon cooking in these big pots and my missus is also keen.

There is an area just south of Chon Buri called Angsilla (I think) and the people there specialize in large pots, masonry and other cookware.

The area is almost on the beach and adjacent to the fishing pier.

Some nice restaurants around that area as well.

    Less washing up too!

If you are using charcoal for the heat source you will find you use far less than the open BBQ method as most of the heat is retained inside the container rather than being disbursed into the atmosphere.

To use the pot as a double up smoker, you could try sitting a metal tray with some wood chips over the fire. Provided you have just enough air to let them smoulder, but not enough to let them burst into flames you should get some really intense smoke going in there.

DeckApe did a thread on making a smoker from an oil drum, he might have some ideas for this. You could do a nice rack of ribs or something similar in the good ol' pot as well.

Looks good and a lot cheaper than the 3000B smoker/bbq I've been jerking off over at homepro. I'm just a tad bit concerned about drilling holes in the bottom of the pot..think it might just shatter.

I've tried this and it worked; place a bit of masking tape over the spot where you want to drill, stick another bit over the first to make a cross. Use a small drill bit on high speed. Go steady. Increase size of drill bits gradually 'till you get the size of hole you want.

I'm sure others will have better ideas but this worked for me on pots and ceramic tiles.

Try and get a ceramic tile driil bit if you can.
If you can't find one, use some putty and make a mound, push a pencil in and make a cylinder. Then fill with a little meths and drill with the hammer action turned off. Works well if your drilling through glaze.

I made a bbq from a drum, cut in half and I have a battery driven rotisserie on it for roast lamb legs. Works a treat....but I like this clay pot idea also.

    Well, moving on, they had loads of other stuff to buy, eat, wear, rub on your spots or train. We'll continue with food first;

Very, nice pineapples. I don't know if this bloke had been visiting Aussie Doctors or that excessive pineapple eating makes you lose limbs. Could have been the way he was sitting I suppose.

    Chillies and stuff, inevitably

    Green and white things

chicken and rice, 25 baht a go.

Big fluffy pancakes, made with care, and apparently very good

    green flavoring ?

    Pudding

small ones for kids and the elderly

Home made noodles from Laos. (I've no idea if there's a difference twixt Laos and Thai noodles but these are meant to be good)

She liked 'em. Well, for 10 bht you would wouldn't you.

This little tacker hadn't finished. I think we disturbed her. Bless her.

Of course there's every creature that ever existed in a muddy river. dried and packed for your delight.

And to top it all off an after dinner mint or one of these

The Laos snap up these used tyres

    Allegedly, dead peoples shoes.

The Thais buy the Laos embroidered stuff. Beautifully done, all by hand it must take hours. They sell it cheap as.

A very happy chap sells lingerie, hats and knickers. I think he might do the fittings himself.

This old lady sells strange unguents, creams and salves to be spread on your sick bits. She also likes the pancakes across the street.

Cloth, lots and lots of cloth. And a very tired store keeper.

It's a nice little place. Very friendly and well, interesting.

    More later I expect.

You certainly live in a nice part of the world JJ and a very interesting and well prepared thread.

The thing that really interests me, and after viewing your photos is that everyone seems so laid back and happy and as if they don't have a care in the world.

Just looking through your thread has helped relax even me.

Good work and thanks for the effort.
