A bit of wildlife around the garden and village.
I saw these little squirrels in our garden they looked kind of like chipmunks I've seen back home.
There were a few larger squirrels as well but they moved to fast for me to get a good picture.
Here's a bad pic of one scampering up a tree.
Skip this one if you're squeamish.
Not really wild yet anyway. Hopefully they have a good life.
I may have posted this one can't remember. It's living in that little hole on one of our electric poles I saw it poking its head out every day.
A mummified pigeon on my mother in law's roof. I think the wind blew it down. Luckily there aren't any pigeons at our place yet there are so many around the village.
Lizards for sale. I almost bought some to release at our place until I found out the broke their jaws. Kind of sad
I'd say this cat was happy.
One of the guys spreading dirt at our place backed into a tree with one of these ant nests in it. Dropped down right on top and he jumped off while it was moving thank god it hit a tree and not our wall. Vicious bastards you couldn't walk near that area for a few days.
Daytime security. No need for cctv
I'm no bird photographer but tried a few times to get a good picture of these little birds on one of our trees a couple times.
So fast. They loved these flowers and would be on there every morning.
Temple cat.
Got this trying to sneak into our bedroom.
A cat with attitude or doesn't like falang.
^ Fantastic shots. Cheers Mike.
^^ Very nice. I love those type of big massive trees that Thailand has. Always remind me of blood vessels in an eye, or like they've been turned upside down and you're looking at the roots.
Maybe it's just me.
Great pics Mike. Looks like you all had a great time with plenty to see and do. The wife and I are holed up in the cold on an uneventful Sunday and your thread was just the ticket for us to discuss our next round in Asia. We missed Mount Phu Si and all of Luang Phrabang for that matter on the last tour. Reasons enough to go back we figure.
Funny thoughts I always have upon returning home are it seems that even the places we've been to several times before I come away knowing I missed something somewhere along the way. But like I said, reasons enough to go back.
Again, thanks for the lovely pics of your last tour. The fishes.
^ Thanks. We need something to kill time in the winter months. I do love spending time in Thailand and the village. After about 3 weeks I always ask myself could I stay here long term the answer is usually no, but this year while relaxing in a hammock it was probably. Maybe having this place in the village gives me more to do and it's fun to kick around.
We wanted to build a little wood deck on the riverside so in our search for material I finally got to have a look around in the big wood factory in the village. I have wanted to see what's doing in there for years.
It looks pretty basic from the outside.
They process two kinds of wood inside. This is the first section.
I'm not sure what type of wood this is.
The place is massive inside.
Here are some of the saw rigs.
I wonder how many fingers have been lost over the decades. This place has been here a very long time.
There are two tall smokestacks you can see from anywhere in the village. Sometimes one is in use.
Maybe to heat these massive drying ovens.
But definitely not to run this.
Must have been some operation back in the day.
Looks like the old boiler.
This is what we're after. This side is where they process the teak.
They had quite a bit on hand.
They had all kinds no big stuff though.
This stuffs probably cut for furniture or doors.
These machines were making up these sheets of finger joint pieces for export.
Here is the little stack we wanted. In the end went with something else because everyone said it would probably be stolen in the night. I think it was around 20-25,000.
Here was a nice stack of teak parquet flooring ready for pick up. It looked killer.
It was cool to have a look around inside. This is where my mother in law gets my wood scraps for the fire ring.
Great thread and fantastic pictures.
Thanx.
Yep, top thread Mike, love the nature part. That's a huntsman spider I think, I'd have left him be, pretty harmless and make great pest control around your house.
As for that ant nest, I'm surprised the Thais didn't bag that, my Missus would have
Anyone know what kind of snake that is? Where's Pragmatic?
Oh... that dead pigeon doesn't look like a pigeon
Thanks, I just moved the spider outside. It's probably moved back in by now. There is another one in my tool storage room and another in the hand towel at our outside bathroom that i found when drying my hands.
I was surprised no one went for the ant nest too. There are 5-6 around the place wife says they would rather just buy it. Ha
The dead pigeon does look a bit off but only they nest up there.
The was a big temple fair near us for a "famous" monks funeral. It was quite the going on. It went on for 4 days.
They had this show one night.
It was great. Unlike these pictures that I took on my phone.
The serpent beast.
This was the main event. Really an impressive send off.
Started out with these two performing.
My picture is shit but they were great.
Two fire engines on hand.
Some jr. firefighters.
Now the moment we all came to see. All kicked off with a special royal flame sent up to the village special.
There was no turning back now.
Sorry for it being picture heavy but I've never seen anything like it.
This was the part that really got it going.
It was such a rush of heat.
This monk got in close to the action to lower these poles down so they didn't fall into the crowd.
They started to spray water on the trees.
That was some serious heat. Glad none of those sparks landed in the woods.
Not much left now. Ashes to ashes mr. monk hope his next life is a good one.
Some great shots there.
Cheers Mike.
Brilliant pics and commentary mike. This is the sort of stuff the regular joe on holiday doesnt get to see in thailand
