pictures from a trip to koh chang and...

My wife and I headed back to koh chang last time we were in Thailand back in January. It was our first time back since 2006 I noticed a lot of change there but it still had a nice feel and wasn't as over built as I thought it might be based on what I have read about it.
We rented a scooter and went from end to end there are some really cool places around the island.

Here is where we started gassing up Thai style.

Then headed south to get breakfast. Found this cool place owned by a European guy. They had a nice system to get stuff up from the kitchen.

We past this cock fighting area on the way. You could see some serious damage on some of those chickens.

Also sorry about the picture quality I thought I could get away with using only my Iphone. While its more convenient the pictures are not so great.

Here are some from that pier down near the south western end.

All the way down the very end is quite a nice beach. Last time we were there it was very undeveloped. Quite a few bungalows have popped up. Still nice though.

    beach patrol on duty too

off duty. These dogs have it pretty nice.

On the way back up we stopped off for a rest.

This building was pretty impressive with that big tree around it.

There were more dogs than tourist.

    probably to early

On the other side of the island we found some cool stops.

    An abandoned pier.

There were 100's of lighters washed up on this beach.

All the way at the end we saw signs for a mangrove restoration area and found this great walkway. There was no one else around. It was well hidden of the main road.

we had no idea how long it would go on just kept on going no signs or info around.

We did finally reach the end. A cool lagoon. Not a great picture.

The sun was starting to go down. Time to make our way out.

We had a good distance to cover to make it back before dark. The first time my wife wasn't saying to slow down.

Made it back to see the sun set.

Here are a few of the hotel. The koh chang tropicana This is where we stayed in 2006. It has changed owners since and they expanded still nice. I would go back.

    Our bungalow

    Nice well kept grounds

Cool beach too. Except for the sharp ass rocks hidden under water. I hit a few and when I got back to the beach there was a lady being treated for a huge cut on her foot and was taken away by the hotel staff bleeding all over.

Although its being built up I still found koh chang a cool place to spend some time exploring. There is still plenty of space to see. Who knows what it will be like in 10 years.

Nice pics, stayed at Banana guest house on White sands beach back in 2003.

Basic shack on a rock in the middle of the beach.

You could sit on your balcony and watch the fish in the clear sea below, very nice.

    Nice day out Mike.

The romanticist in me likes to think it culminated in half a dozen fingers of Lau Khao and as many large bottles of award winning ale.

Thanks it was a nice trip out. I don't really like to go back to the same place twice but were running out of places to go and i had a good time there before.
I probably did do to many dog pics but the elephants were just standing around chained to a tree.

here is one last dog pic.

l think the same mike, don't like to go back to the same places twice but there are a few exceptions, ko changs definitely worth another look , and I may well find myself there in the new year for a few days if I can't convince the wife of a trip to Vietnam or Cambodia, I also stayed at the Tropicana last visit, very nice place indeed. Ended up staying another day because of heavy rain and a landslide blocking the access road to the car ferry, wasn't to unhappy about that

    Good pics.
The last time I visited the island I made the mistake of staying at Lonely Beach thinking it would be quieter than White Sand. What a mistake that was, The place was full of backpackers having parties every night. Each bar had a turn of hosting one.
I've nothing against young folk enjoying themselves but the music was played a jet engine volume. So much for me chilling out
