What is everyone's problem? If you don't like Hua Hin then in my eyes the answer is very simple...don't go!

There's shit places in every country, there are many different places to go to in Thailand so if your not keen on a certain place then don't go there...

I've only been to Pattaya once and I hated it so I decided not to go again, I didn't think that I should start a thread about how I didn't like it but just decided that I would not go again.

    Rant over

Hua hin is a dump, trading on its past. although it has never been a beach paradise.
20 years ago I thought, i saw some potential in it and investigated a business there. never went ahead, neither did it.

HH is a worthy asset to have within commuting distance, for shopping & the odd night out. Just another tourist town though, no particular features. What gives- I thought a tourist mecca would at least have a decent beach? I much preferred it just a bit south, Pak Nam Pran/ Khao Kalok area.

Looking at the picture above I thought it was the Thais throwing their shit in the sea and on the ground which ends up in the sea and back on the beach that was a problem.
Indeed. Thais throwing their shit everywhere. Of course, it's the white man's fault according to RS and I guess he's right. Should've colonised and civilised Thailand when we had the chance and then many of the current problems would be lessened.

Pattaya make Hua Hin look like Hawaii. Except the beach there, I like the town of Hua Hin, but not on the weekends...gets crowded and they jack up the hotel prices even in low season.
This might be weird but I really liked the Train Station..check it out if you go.

Loved the banana boats with fully clothed Thais sitting on them. I hired a jetski, no scams whatsoever, when I returned after my 30 mins the rental guy and his mates offered me to sit with them and poured me whisky & soda

A quick and dirty way of assessing a Thai beach is to count the number of dried soi dog turds above the high water mark.

Even on beaches attached to five star hotels they don't pick up the droppings.

Cha am is a bit of me as well. The trick in LOS is to live away from all the tourist shit but have it on your door step when you want it.

People used to always moan and complain on the Phuket forums about everything under the sun, then when you asked them where they lived they would tell you Patong!!

You cant live in a place that is specifically designed for tourists and then cry about being treated like a tourist.

Cha Am is the pits. All you whinging posters please stay away.
It has nothing going for it, in fact most tourists who have visited have left with incurable welts of pus that modern western medicine can't cure.
Soi dogs have right of way on the streets and inbred nags on the beach.

Sorry for no photos. But for sure we watched the horse turds get picked up by the tide and.. Get the horses OFF the beach. Make it known that vinegar (thanks Mid) is the antidote for jelly fish sting (after scraping the sand off the affected areas). Remember, this isn't Pattaya or Phuket -- no -- this is THE most important beach area for Thailand. How does this happen?
My mind is not for rent to any God or Government, There's no hope for your discontent - the changes are permanent!

How everyone differs hey, I actually like Cha-Am! Spent about three months in total at the small 'Fishing village' at the far end of Cha-Am and loved it! Very cheap as it's geared up to cater for the Burmese fishermen, very decent people and a nice little community there.

Cha-Am Town is a little boring but there's enough to do there, one disco and plenty of bars plus what I believe is the longest beach in the whole of Thailand and always seems to be dead yet is also pretty clean on the whole.

Guess it's not amazingly popular amongst the majority as there aren't many girly bars there...

^ There are quite a few girly bars there, it even has a Gogo bar. They're not the best of lookers though.
I stayed in Cha Am for a year and thoroughly enjoyed its fishing piers and parks and it's proximity to Hua Hin which was great for a Sunday Lunch and shopping as well as the Vinery, water park and monkey mountain with a great view .

anyone who slags off Hua Hin, hasn't really seen most of what it has to offer

So you don't like HH because a few places sell only (shock) Thai beer and because some girlie bars change owners every few years?

Glad you have your priorities right.
