After spending a week in Loei with the g/f it was decided that I should take a visit somewhere as she had to work for the week. So it was off to Chiang Mai with the hope that I might meet a couple of the members of TD.
Dropped the girl off to work and her parting words were ' Have fun - make sure you phone me morning and night.' So I left about 9am for the jouney to Chiang Mai - some 600 kms away. An uneventful journey for the most part, got lost once just before joining Highway 11 at Thon Saen Khan, but put that down to bad road signs, dun it again coming back at the same place!! Now most of the road that I travel on is single carriageway, bendy roads, up and down mountains so it was very rare that I could get above 100 kph. Gets to Lampang - dual carriageway - so its foot down time. Gets to Lamphun and am waved in by the BiB.
BiB 'You were speeding'
Me Yes, sorry about that
BiB Where you from
Me Angrit
BiB You have driving licence.
Me Hands IDP licence over with 200 Baht folded inside (This 200 baht
is always in my licence - just in case)
BiB OK - park car over there and come to desk
There then followed about 10 minutes chat with various officers who I would think were trying to improve their English. Then was ushered to the desk where the big boss proceeded to write the ticket and fine, all the time with genial conversation.
Big Boss. Don't go to speedy - enjoy your holiday. Thank you.
With that the officer who flagged me down escorted me to my car, waved me out and then gave a smart salute.
I was cited as doing 119 kph, so I have no complaints. As I passed the concealed police car about a mile away from the stop I knew I was doing between 140 and 150 kph![]()
So it was a sedate drive from there to CM, and a check in at the Top North Hotel, a place where I had previously stayed.
By this time I was dying for a drink so Thought I would try and find the 'Pirates Cove' Now for some unknown reason I had it in my mind that it was close to the Irish pub. I knew the rough direction of that place and eventually found it. Orders a drink and asks if anyone knew where the Pirates Cove was. Blank looks all the way round- nobody had even heard of it. Wtf the first drink had gone down without touching the sides so 3 or 4 later, I had the bright idea to find an inernet cafe, log on to TD and send CMN a PM to ask where was the Pirates Cove. Much to his credit he was online at the time and I received a reply in about 15 mins - greenie on the way. In the meantime I had realised that the Pirates Cove had a website, google was my friend and the girl at the internet cafe told me I was only about 10 minutes walk away from it.
So I duly arrived at the Pirates cove, ordered me beer, and asked if there were any members from the TD here tonight. A voice behind me said something which I didn't catch but turned round, looked, and said 'You must be Lady Hawke' Yes was the reply but how did you know? I said that I had seen photos posted and introduced myself as Props. Bad move - got verbal then for being one of the b.......ds that puts those cryptic clues upAnyway a boozy evening commenced and LH phoned a few members and it was hoped that we would meet them the next day.
