Our Thai holiday (with pics ) part 2

Onwards and upwards ,, ( sorry bout delay from part 1 ) sooo busy .

Ok now after parting company with the rest of the family were off alone for a week in the North West direction from Cha am ,, we are travelling lighter as Mum and SIL along with their numerous pots of week old stik rie and various items in jars in various states of decay and decomposition are now travelling back up to the North east, in the other pick up.
So off we go I wanna make Kamphanpaet tonight , I have made good time to Supaburi so I am going to take the road through Ban Rai to Utai Thani ,, it s very scenic and we stop as and when the fancy takes ,, freedom to travel at last !
Pleasant surprise as we arrive at Nakhon Sawan a new bypass heads us off to Kamphangpaet .

On arrival we check into the Techno resort on the south bank of the river Ping in the city ,, and take up one of the new rooms for 1800 per night ,, this is beautiful .

After a good meal and a meet up with 2 of Jans ex Uni mates we go to bed as were off to Mae Sot tomorrow .

Arrived up at the border with Burma about lunch time so we had to eat of course ,, superb meal for 4 about £16 , visit to the market buy some goodies then off back to Kamp for the night.

Breakfast courtesy of one of Jans friends at her home in the morning then were off to the historical park ,,, Now I am in my glory , I wanna be here all day ,, I have my art paper , my brushes , my water ,, and my paint ,,,,, er hold on a mo I have dropped a big one here ,, I have brought 3 tubes of watercolour with me 2 earth reds and an ultramarine blue ,, what a tool I have left my other box of tubes back in the UK !

Working as quick as I can with what little I have I try to get some of the intense heat and light into my little rendition of this temple remains

This was painted with only 2 colours , light red and ultramarine blue .

Later that evening I made a sketch from an aerial plan of a ruined temple ,, this was my impression only , mabe looked completely different Wat Singa

Moving on the next day we all went to Phisanalok before we parted from the Kampang gals visiting one of Thailands most famous temples ,, apparently has a gold buddha in this one ??
Talking about Buddhas how about this beaut ? belittles even someone as large as me !

Anyway we say good bye to the girls , they go back to Kampaeng and we are heading to Puu Rue tonight ,, just a word about those lovely girls we have been with over the last couple of days , each of them insisted on paying their way on the meals and drinks etc , none of them was after a freebie ,, 3 lovely girls ( and only one of them is married )

Now I am sorry I am only about half way ,, so I will post some more within the next 2 days , to finish it off rather than rush it all now , I have had a busy day and its a 5am start tomorrow , so thanks for looking and see you soon with the remainder.

    Cheers Nigel

Firstly apologies about the lack of pics / info in the first batch , to be honest I nearly gave up on the way it kept freezing up , I actually posted more but never checked after I submitted it , went straight to bed ,, anyway a couple of pics from the Khampang historical park

I love this one would have loved the time to paint it

This is the view where I stood to paint the other one above

On arrival we check into Phu rue resort this is on the road to Loei about 40kms west of it ,, rather nice view here again over the valleys , in this region a lot of roses are grown .

After breakfast we turn left due north to Tha Li and the dodgy coast road beside the Mekong heading towards the old town of Chiang Khan along the way I managed to take a couple of pics

and managed to have a quick splash and dash with me paints ( both of them 555 ) now whilst I was moochin around on the river side I noticed some very fine red / brown earth so I mixed it up in a pot and splashed in on me paper to gain a third colour

Ok not brill but a quick capture of the scene for me.

Here we are at the old town of Chiang Khan , a lovely old place , I wanna stay a night here and paint tomorrow but Jan wants to get home to spend time with her family ,, I concede , to be fair to her.

not quite sure what this old bike is all about although a lot of places rent bikes here ( no not that kind )

Another view along the Mekong at Chiang Khan

Now I've been reminded we ARE going back to Ban Pak tonight , but I am gonna call and see another old mate of mine along the way so I turn left and drive over the mountain way past the Phu Paya historical area to see my friend in Nam som ,, haven't seen him in about 4 years and to be honest I am shocked to the core to see how ill he is / has been ,, apparently put down to a lack of activity , he hasn't had the best of luck with his inlaws and has kinda lost the source of where the majority of his excersise came from . Keep up your new regime and get better soon mate ( if your looking )

Well I have prolonged this as long as I can now its the return to the family home ,, now I don't know about you but when I tap a mattress it doesn't usually make a knock knock sound ,, well our one here does , a quarter of an inch of foam stapled to a piece of hardboard ,, never mind only another 5 nights

Next day after I awake after the full 10 mins sleep and rearrange my ribs I suggest we go pay Ralph and his wife another visit which we do and exchange some more funny stories before we head up to Nong Khai for lunch

Now I'm gonna feed up in here and give tonights , gristle , twigs , and paste a wide berth ,, this is proper food

It does say under this one no photography 555 shame

Well thats about it ,, back to boredomville ( for me ) but Jans in her element so I make use of time to do some DIY to Mum + Dads house , put new shelves up , replace some of the old wood windows ,, impress no one with my sawatt dee khup , sabaidee mai khup and lorne map map but this is the reality of village living for me being unable to speak the lingo , to be honest I don't think it would be a lot better if I could , these people are happy chatting forever about the day to day things in life , which is fair enuf , but no one seems to have any hobbies or interests outside this .

Anyway I get round my little niece and borrow her paint box to have a go at making a rendition of her Mum + Dads new house

This big house cost about 1.5 m bht.

Oh well thats me done ,, sorry bout the delay . mix up ,, hope to be better organised next time cheers Nigel + Jan

Nice to see some more of your paintings
Last time I almost took it up , I read a good book - color choices - by stephen quiller
I seem to recall him suggesting just using a few colours ,as that's what a lot of the best painters did , and also it means you have to work more with the light and dark to get the image to work, [- or something like that ...]
as you achieved with the stone temple painting !

Cheers Bluey have a go mate ,, yes a limited pallet will help but not 2 colours lol .

My ex wife used ask me to paint Charles Bronson ,,, ( I don't think he would have been too keen ) but thats really not my thing , and just to prove a point I refused to use brushes or knives so I used only my fingers and a feather from a pheasant and to be honest I surprised myself . If I can dig it out the loft I'll stick it up for a larf

I reckon painting would be a great hobby to have in rural Thailand, there are quirky little scenes for the artists palette at every turn. Good stuff Nigel.

If those are examples of your work you should be exhibiting. Thanks for the report, the views and your sketches/paintings. If you can do that with two colours your'e an artist.

Tempting as they sound I am afraid I will have to pass. With the new development of withnalstoke finally deciding to tie the knot, I have asked my agent to look into the availability of sontamslap's MIL.

He he has reported she has an estate of 10 Rai, mixed paddy and rubber. There is a 1,000 Guineas a year settlement, she makes a fine somtam and has a breeding herd of water buffalo - the bull has many rosettes from the village shows. To top it all she has all her teeth! She will of course be devastated at the news of withnalstoke's union, but I am assured there is nobody else in the running.

    Wish me luck.

No offense to DD but I find the TD gallery cumbersome and a pain in the arse.

DD has been reminded many times before about that , however it is what it is

Next time send yourself an email with all those passwords.
Put it in a folder so you don't acidentally delete it.
    Or do what I do.
For all those sites that aren't sensitive use one same password.

You may want to check the T&C's as some "storage" companies are after the ownership of the photographs uploaded.

    From a Google T&C

"Google states that you own your files but also hidden in its lengthy legalese and terms and conditions is the following clause:
When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide license to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content."

Can ya do a thread of your paintings throughout the years? With large size pics?

I'm sure it would be a well received and appreciated thread.
