Worlds biggest firework a Pattaya flop

BRUSHES AT THE BIGGEST FIRE WORK EXPLODES ON THE SEA

The giant Fire Work landed on the surface of the sea instead of going up to the sky. The explosion was so vast and caused the roof of Sea Rescue building to collapse.

On 30 September 2007, at 06.00 PM, at Bali Hai pier, Pattaya, Chonburi, Mr. Niran Watanasartsathorn, Mayor of Pattaya city, Mr. Shikashi Tanakajina, Managing Director of Thai Mikasha company and Mr. Somporn Naksuetrong, Manager of Ripleys, World of Entertainment, joined to chair the biggest Fire Work in the world for Guinness record amongst many Thais and foreigners who were awaiting to witness the event.

The diameter of the Fire Work was 135 cm. which was produced by fire work specialists from Japan. Pol.Maj. Seree Tai-sap, chairman of Fire Work (Thailand), was the fire work activator. The normal diameter of fire work usually is 120 cm.

The fire work event started with 150 fire works. The show was in the figures of Number Eight, Zero and a Heart, which was to celebrate the 80th birthday of His Majesty the King. There were also many other flower fire works before the Fire Work No. 151, which was the biggest one for the world record, to be activated.

The biggest Fire Work was suppost to go up 800 meters in the sky. Something wrong occurred when the Fire Work changed the direction to land on the surface of the sea. The vibration of the explosion caused the roof and ceiling of Sea Rescue building to collapse. The cost of the damage was about 20,000 baht. Luckily, nobody got injury.

Mr. Shikashi revealed that the diameter of the Fire Work which was 135 cm. was not in the way it was planned due to the location for base of the Fire Work was too close to the sea. The gunpowder was too damp and caused the change of the direction. The Fire Work went up only 20 meters and came down on the sea.

Mr. Somporn Naksuetrong, Manager of Ripleys, said that the base of the Fire Work was dug into the ground about 5 meters dept in order to put the iron pipe for driving the Fire Work up to the sky. It was a pity that it failed. They will have to reconsider whether they will give it a try again.

Reporter said that many of Thais and foreigners around Royal Garden Plaza who were waiting to see the biggest Fire Work were all disappointed.

They are triers but can't get much right, still at least it didn't come down in walking street and kill 45 Russians.

I got to admit I was really tempted to go, I mean you just knew it would go wrong, still lucky it landed in the sea rather than on the spectators.
