This tiny little cove in Chantaburi Province is nice and secluded, nice little beach and generally nobody there.

it looks a nice place DD
where is McDonalds?
Whatever happened to Thais building places on beach resorts that cost a few hundred baht per night?
It seems that Chao Lao Beach now has a boutique hotel among other things built on it, this place is called Smile Beach Boutique Resort and has starting room prices from 1,200baht per night all rooms aircon and have balcony with sea view, plus free wifi, doubt they got a mcdonalds or KFC yet though

went to chao lao in january and theres a bit of building going on, nothing less than 400 per night for a fan room when i was there,500 aircon tv, chao lao resort, right on the main road, place is run by a copper, got a resturant and a mini mart on site too, nice place, and opposite is a burger bar, not mac d's but close enough, run by an english speaking thai called dan
ketamine-only fools and horses
just got back from a 4 day break in Chai Lao. Stayed about 100 m from dans burgher bar. He closes low season (now) But I saw and spoke with him. I wanted to know where an english customer of his was drinking. He phoned him and arranged a meet. Dan lived in the USA for 30 years, so his english is 100%
The resort we stayed was 500b per night. No fridge. Beautiful setting, with trees and flowers all over. very clean with unintrusive staff. this was my 3rd trip there in 6 months.

Link for Donwaa Resort?
A search on google come up with a blank even though I spelt Chao Lao correctly.
I`ve been there twice in december, not exactly low season.
The burger bar seemed to be closed on both occasions.
Well, that was 2-3 years back.
Yes.
Just about every place is these days going upmarket.
Who need a friggin minibar, cable tv and hot shower when you can sit on the porch and watch the sun set while downing a sundowner and reading a good book?
If I want those amenities, I might just as well be staying at my own place.
I only enter my rented room/bungalow whatever, to shower, shit, shave and sleep any way. Not necessarily in this order.
Gone is the backpacking era in Thailand.
many of the Chao Lao places are listed either under Tha Mai or Chanthaburi. Careful when you book if you want the beach, Tha Mai area stretches from the coast to about 15km inland (where we now live - not exactly beachfront). The beach has gone from glassy-smooth to choppy waves, there yesterday and still warm and clear at CL, but less suitable for small children, some waves maybe .5m enough to knock kids over.Originally Posted by pescator
appears, OP's Donwaa is Tonwha (same cellphone number) - their website here (I see Google translate calls it Wan Ton!)
pic from thread on the area
We stayed there several times 2010 and again this year, now we've moved to the area see the owners often they're good friendly people, almost deserve a commission for the number of bookings I've sent their way! There are plenty of similar places along the road, generally same prices of 500/baht per night with some increasing to 600 for Friday/Saturday nights.
There are also smaller rooms (with fan/tv) along the road at 300b per night.
and an aerial shot of the southern end on CL - continue south (left) over the bridge towards Laem Sing

cheers, nice shot that
Hello there,
I saw on the message board that you were pretty familiar with chanthaburi. I myself live in Phuket, but was seriously considering on moving to chanthaburi. Mainly because I am 90% fruititarian-- I love eating fresh fruit, and also because of the relaxed-ness of the environment down there, versus Phuket.
I just had a few questions though; if you could answer them, I would appreciate it.
1. I heard that I could pick my own fruit 'for free' in chanthaburi, since there are so many fruit orchards and trees. Is that true?
2. Can I really find a decent, clean, and small room (basic) for 3000 to 5000 baht per month.
3. What would you think the best way would be for me to get my 2011 Honda wave 110 CC motor bike down there? Or would it be cheaper to just sell it before I leave, and then rent or buy one when I reach chanthaburi?
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience with me.
Yash
