    Koh Hai...island ho..

Ok, here tis the semi last installment, this will be several mini installments as I got about 100 nice piccies to put up.

That is I get no complaints from someone about same same shit but different.

We booked and headed of to Koh Hai Welcome to Kohhai Island on the Web for 5 nights of island ho.

Rental cars in phuket are cheap, by comparison everything else is expensive to ripoff. I was very tempted to take the car we hired while in Phuket and drive to Krabi ourselves and leave it in the carpark for the time on the island, worked out not much difference and even cheaper than some of the quotes from private cars to get us down there.

In the end went with a driver in nice new’ish car for 3000b….sly dog wanted 500b more for stopping along the way for 30 min to shop, no turn off, no extra driving, nuttin, just park and wait. Shit like this makes me boil, so he got what he deserved, fuck all.

Anyway, my daughter was a little ill and the missus was convinced she had malaria cos she got bit by a mosquito down here. She had a fever and flu etc, then when we arrived on the island she went to pee….missus yelled out that she had just pissed blood in her urine and it must be Malaria. So I told her to have a closer inspection to see if bleeding anywhere…nuttin….I looked in the bowl and it was certainly very red. Told her to check again when she pees next time.

Found out the next morning it was the cleaners putting some red cleaning crap in the bowl when they leave. Disaster averted.

So, here is the jetty where we waited for the ferry, twas raining, so it was kinda nice sitting in this muslim restaurant drinking hot tea and watching the world go by…..

The Ferry boats at the Jetty….we could get the ferry for 400b each or we could have hired a longboat for 1500b and gone straight away, but I did not really fancy going in that little thing as it was stormy….or a speedboat for 3000k….crikey.

Foot print in the sand...only one, honest...

This is not a good pic for any reason, just wanted to take and show the clouds that surrounded the mountains on the mainland every morning....

Kids slept on a mattress on the floor in front of this window, nice view to wake up to each morning....sleepy head here...

Ok, this next lot is kinda similar, so those that don't like similar....don't whine. In fact also don't say ....'oh those are nice'....or 'awesome shots'....unless you really think so, I prefer them to be all rubbished than false appreciation. Just makes me feel good when I should be feelin bad.....and I like bad...

and while they may be similar...I like storms, so I take em while I can...

Wifes arse....how did that get in ere...

The restaurant at sunset....nice spot on the beach. In fact another hotel down the beach had a really nice restaurant for dinner also, right on the beac and sitting outside. Music was good also and could sit and watch the kids playing at the waters edge just meters away.

We ordered a plate of fresh crabs, the blues ones, fresh caught and boiled. I would honestly say these were the besy tasting crabs i had ever eaten. I usually avoid crab and crustacions cos I am to lazy to peel the buggers, so unless the missus does it, I am not fussed. These however I peeled myself and we ordered another 2 plate fulls, cheap to at just a few hundred baht a plate...big plate and full.

The cabins of another resort down the beach...

Makes me laugh when I see Phuket advertising for 'pristine' beaches....they do not know the meaning of the word....disgusting the beaches of and around this world so called class destination...

more bungalows in yet another resort...

    Stay tuned....more to come...

    Emerald cave.....Snorkelling....overland island trek....and more..

I like poisoning my neighbours dogs till they die cos I'm a cnut

Actually, some really nice shots there, mate. Post em all. I've not been there but am seriously considering it.

They are quite stout aren't they, I'm surprised.

Yes, don't you reckon it would pay to have a daily cleanup? It's not as if labour is expensive, and the payback would be more tourists to the clean area. I know it would be a never ending job for some poor bastrad, but a bit of attention to detail is lacking in most of the beachfronts and it really wouldn't take much to turn it around. Bloody hell, the recycled plastics and thongs would probably pay the wages.

Anyway, thanks for the pics NT and I wouldn't be so rude to comment on your wife's thighs even though I thought they were well above acceptable.

Yes, forgot to get photos of crabs.

Little girl was not 100% when we first arrived on the island, but she always looks like that in the morning before she makes herself bewtifull again.

And her thighs are not ferkin fat....sheesh...do I really need to put up another pic of her ?? I am saving that pic for the 'sexy mothers' comp...

Ok second section, part 2, the next bit....

My son and I hiked across the island to a beach we were told was on the other side, very nice, good snorkelling I was told. Only thing was that the manager of the hotel looked at my son and said...oh no...don't think he will make it, to young. The track is throguh the bush, very muddy and wet, walking through water, mosquito's the size of golf balls that will carry him away.

So, we decided to take the sensible, responsible, caring parent approach and say 'fcuk it' and go anyway....

Here is the track, mud, water, mozzies, jungle, steep ascents and descents the other way, 2 mountain ranges traversed and arrival at a deserted beach...

Nobody here, just us and our footprints...

and a few thousand of these little suckers....

We saw about 30 of these Sam Toucans flying about and landing in the trees above us on the wild and wooly adventure trek across the island...

This boat rocked up and guess they are fisher peoples, living nearby as they wandered into the jungle and collected coconuts only and departed ....

This pic was where we went snorkelling on the other side of the island...it reminds me of the American scuba divers on the Great Barrier Reef in Oz several years ago that got left behind by their dive company....look out behind and all you see is ocean and a huge storm approaching

This is how far out from the beach we swam to find a good coral and fish spot and some decent clear water....

Then sometime later, this dive boat rocked up and we 'mingled'...before swimming off to our beach, leaving the tourist hoards to enjoy their mass experience...

    More to come....if ya want..

Good on you for exposing the kiddie to a bit of adventure, not enough parents make them get into that stuff. He looks very happy slopping about in the mud and would learn more on that trip than a week at school I reckon.

He likes adventure....think he is a bit like me in that respect.

He wants to learn to dive, so waiting till he turns 8 and then get him started in a pool in Bkk....then the world of adventure will open up.

He also wants to learn to surf after his boogey board success in Malaysia.

If you can see it, in the backpack he is carrying he put a coconut in it that had germinated....he carried it all the way back from the other side of the island himself to keep it. Told him that was how coconuts get from island to island and all over the place and grow.

    Ok...some more, the 3rd instalment....3rd bit...

We went to koh hai towards the end of the wet season, so the good was that there were very few tourists around, lotsa storms and I like storms.....so got to take some nice stormy pics, or try at least.

Bad was that the clarity underwater was not that great and a couple of the islands/destinations we wanted to go to were not accessible because of the storms each day.

One place I really wanted to go was the Emerald Cave....if anybody does not know it, it is an island that has an inland beach and lagoon. Only way into it is via a cave on the rugged open ocean side of the island and once inside, the small beach and lagoon has vertical cliffs all around it, pure white sand and the lagoon is a rich turquoise blue colour.

Getting through the cave can only be done at low tide and it is also only really worthwhile going when the sun is shining cos it gives the water in the cave the 'emerald' colour it is named after.

Everyday at the resort, they said not worth going because of the storms and rough weather to get to and through the cave entrance. But on our second last day there, they said we could try, just me, my son and the guide.

So we went, we tried, we conquered.

Pulling up at the cave entrance you are faced with the huge cliff faces coming direct down to the ocean, very clear water below you and obviously rather deep. The actual entrance to the cave is very hard to see, even when right there in front of it.

We entered the water, my son being dragged through by the guide while holding a life vest. The water strength was reasonably strong, rising and falling with each wave and current flowing by. Now the colour of the water at the entrance and exit of the cave is simply brilliant, it just gives you a feeling of floating over a pool filled with fluorescent lighting. Then some metres into the cave around some bends, it goes pitch black for some time, you can smell the bats, feel the water and hear it rising and crashing against the rugged walls. The guide had a small torch and that was it going through the pitch black.

Then it starts to become light, emerald green in fact and the exit is there, again an amazing emerald glow and you exit into this chasm with pure white sand and surrounded by a blue lagoon.

It was extra special experience because the guide said that if you come here in the tourist season, there could be 200 people inside, we were the only ones there. We swam and lazed around for maybe an hour before heading off.

My son loved it, we will go back again and I will get better aquatic pics next time, these turned out blurred with my little waterproof camera, simply because of the waves and current unable to maintain a steady shot.

the entrance from inside the island

    boat trip back

    Bloken boat trip back...

Now these are not clear, but wanted to include them to show the colour of the water...

When we exited the cave, we were met by the people train, must have been 60 or more people lined up to be towed through....I always like being the ones not joining the hoards....

Posted this pic before, but I really like it, it was just there as a storm approached and we stuck our heads up to see what was going on...

This lion fish was amazing to see, we just passed over a bombey and there it was. I was hoping to see one and there ya go. Most of these, including the nemos and Lion fish were just off the beach of the island, so accessible all day long.

While the clarity of the shots is not great, they are here to show anyone with kids what you can see just off the beach from Koh Hai, even my 3yo daughter was having a go with goggles and snorkel, sticking her head in and breathing as she should, then pulling her head out, grabbing a breath and straight back in. She was amazed by all the fish and colour.

Well worth it if you are able to do it, best education ever for kids, real life experiences rather than books and school all the time.

My daughter would have come also, but I could not take them both snorkelling out there alone and the trek was thought to be to tough to be able to carry her a lot of the way, she only 3.....but she will for sure be into it, as it is she gets into everything and will have a go....here she is rock climbing in Pattaya...

And its not a tiny wall for pre schoolers ....
