The Tuk Tuk mafia is here to stay, nothing will change as there's simply to much money flooding into the corrupt officials pockets that inhabit Phuket.

The Tourists will continue to pay the high price of Tuk Tuk rides as compared to the real world from where they come its still a cheap ride. The vast majority of tourists no nothing of this scum and scam and just pay the asked price.

When one looks at the figures concerning the never ending tourist train that rolls through Phuket it shows that all the bad press concerning Tuk Tuks and Jet ski scams does not impact on tourist numbers.

The tourists continue to flow in hence the gong show rolls on.

I've been here long enough to know it's not just the tuk tuk drivers and most of them just rent the tuktuk's by the day so they have to make money to pay the rent.

It's the whole island system thats corrupt from the top down, I many stories have you read about the Immigration? customs department also everytime you have to go there you know it's going to cost you money.

One of my wifes client a couple of years ago wanted to get a yellow tabien bann, the woman in the Ampour wanted 10,000 baht, "for what" I do it quick for you she said.

They don't wear helmets for three reasons.

    1) Stupid.

    2) They know that the bloody things generally available are only plastic bling and couldn't survive a prang.

    3) They wear expensive amulets instead.

They also curse and swear, pissed off as hell when the hated cops nail them.

I don't see that as willingly supporting bribery.

Sure she would "..quick." But she would also just do it as it is illegal for her to deny it and she knows it. If one has the time to be patient and isn't intent on breaking laws , tea money need not be spent.

The entire country is corrupt quite beyond repair. It simply is a matter of liking Phuket to live on for the fresh ocean breezes and scenery. If you must indulge in Patong or anywhere else within Kathu police sub district, well caveat emptor. The Thalang police are attentive and seem to enforce laws without prejudice.

Phuket : just stay north of center .

Place Meter, check Meter if on outside red/green light...

Nice fine for the one with meter off and customer in

Meter sealed at given rate per km

Hmm done all over the world but that little rebel island just not possible, throw the head of police to the sharks and the Governor of the place as well.

If corruption starts at the top or the bottom may be debatable. Who it favours is not! The anarchy in Phuket is a clear indication of what will befall the rest of thailand unless a government can start the process of reestablishing the rule of law in the Land of Smiles.

Phuket is a popular destination for all foreigners looking for a cheap spicy adventure, hence the never ending stream of escapers and adrenaline freaks who fund the Phuket/Koh Samui racket.

Peaceful Thailand is no more, except in poor isolated pockets.

Issan sounds nice, boring, but peaceful.
