Sex-tour accused made lewd phrase list, court told

Sex-tour accused made lewd phrase list, court told
    Edward Gay

An estate agent who allegedly organised sex-tourism breaks in Thailand told an undercover police officer that he had made a "sex" phrase card to aid his trip, a court has heard.

The High Court at Auckland yesterday heard a recording of how the 47-year-old, who has name suppression, allegedly offered the card to the officer.

"Yeah, made up one general one ... and one sex one," says a voice alleged to be that of the accused, caught by the officer on a concealed recording device.

The accused is also alleged to have shown the officer photos of Thai boys, one of whom he described as 14.

"[The estate agent] said he was 14 years old and he had taken him to bed," the officer told the court.

In one of the recordings played to the court, the target of the sting says: "He's 14 and um, he was very, very yummy ... And he was very keen.

"I mean, I couldn't believe it the first time that I um picked up a young guy, probably, I don't know, 14 maybe, um at a park where some of the locals were, and um I said to him oh **** you know, how are we going to, and he said oh we just get a taxi ..."

"The taxi driver turns around and says: 'You know this boy's only 14 ..."'

The accused denies charges of organising and promoting child sex tours - the first such charges in New Zealand.

    The trial continues.

N.Zealander convicted of planning Thai child sex tour

WELLINGTON, Nov 11, 2011 (AFP) - - An Auckland man was convicted Friday of organising a child sex tour to Thailand, in a case described as a legal first in New Zealand.

Police said the 47-year-old man, whose identity was suppressed, was arrested last year after a covert operation where an undercover officer posed as a potential customer.

The man was convicted in the High Court in Auckland of organising an underage sex tour but found not guilty on a lesser charge of promoting the tour, police said. He faces a jail term of up to seven years.

Prosecutors told the court the undercover police officer contacted the man through a website which offered tours to Thailand for people seeking sex with young boys.

They said the man organised travel to Thailand for himself and the officer, agreeing to provide on procuring underage boys for sex. He was arrested before the trip was made.

Local media reported it was the first conviction under 1995 New Zealand legislation targeting the organisation and promotion of overseas child sex tours.

Detective senior sergeant John Michael said the two-year investigation, which involved various police agencies and the New Zealand customs service, showed authorities were determined to crack down on child exploitation.

"People who engage in this horrible kind of abuse of young children must be stopped," Michael said in a statement.

"We find this type of offensive behaviour involves people from more affluent nations travelling to poorer countries, where children are exploited for financial gain."

The man was remanded in custody and will be sentenced on February 14.

If they want to go after the pedos, that's just fine, but as we've discussed before, I doubt if the religious schizophrenics and feminist man-haters will be satisfied with just that for very long.

    Questions over name suppression
    November 13, 2011

There are questions as to why a man found guilty of organising underage sex tours to Thailand has been granted name suppression.

Lobby group Family First says the community has a right to be aware of his identity in order to protect themselves from him.

It points out earlier this year Christchurch judge David Saunders said that the ‘naming and shaming’ of offenders has a real deterrent effect.

Family First says the protection of the community should always outweigh the rights of an offender to be able to mask their crime, especially in a case like this involving the exploitation of highly vulnerable people.
