Two vocational school students were shot and critically injured yesterday by members of a rival school who allegedly mistook their friendly greeting for insults.
Police said the attack occurred near the Krungthon Technology College in Bang Kae district, which the victims attended.
Wipada Ponkam, 20, a second year student in business administration, and Anuwat Puangpila, 23, in his third year in electrical technician studies, were among students waiting for a bus near the college.
A witness said bus No.163, carrying at least five students, one reportedly a female, from Mubankru Technology College, pulled over at the bus stop and someone called out to greet a friend in the queue.
However, the other Krungthon students thought they were being insulted and a verbal exchange took place.
The witness alleged a female student on the bus pulled out what appeared to be a homemade gun and fired shots at the Krungthon group.
Ms Wipada was hit in the chest and Mr Anuwat above his right eye.
Both are in a critical condition in hospital.
A female suspect was detained by police, but has yet to be charged in relation to the incident.
A number of other students were also detained by police for questioning.
