Phuket Expat Wanted for Theft of Friend's 900,000 Baht Car

PHUKET: Phuket police are hunting an expat named Andy who has allegedly ripped off a local car renter and fled with his new 940,000 baht Toyota Vigo.

The renter eventually went to Kathu Police Station in Patong when it became evident his ''friend'' Andy was not such a friend after all.

Sapornchai Turnthin,43, told police at the station, which oversees Patong, that he had last seen his new black four-door Vigo on April 16.

''Andy and I had been friends for five years,'' he told police. ''That's why I didn't worry about getting any details from him or formalising the deal. Andy was a friend.''

Khun Sapornchai said his friend hailed from Hungary, and said that he'd really like the Vigo to show his parents, who were coming to visit, around Thailand.

News of the vehicle's disappearance was reported to police on May 28 and officers now think that ''Andy'' has probably taken the vehicle to Chonburi to dispose of it.

Khun Sapornchai, keen to get the Vigo back, has offered a 10,000 baht reward for information leading to an arrest, with 30,000 baht for police.

That reward is a bit cheap... I wouldn't give it back for 30000.

This story has more holes than a whore's alibi.

Not only is it incredulous that the chickenhead would lend his brand new car to a falang whose name he cannot give but the idiot actually has the effrontery to describe him as a friend! Now who on earth is going to believe any self respecting falang, even a Hungarian, would actually have a male Thai chickenhead car rental scamster from Phuket as a friend, I ask you?

Why did he wait 2 months before reporting the theft? Why must the car have been sold on in Chonburi? Is that where all falang who steal cars from their Thai friends take them to?

Bent as an arab's dagger, all of 'em.

    Maybe that's exactly what's he's doing?

Phuket Police on the Trail of Patong's 'Hot Rod' Andy

    Wednesday, July 6, 2011

PHUKET: New evidence has surfaced about the activities of ''Hot Rod Andy,'' an expat accused of renting but not returning a 900,000 baht pickup truck from a Phuket dealer.

Phuket police say his visa expires this month, so they expect Andy will be apprehended at a Thai border crossing or an airport, or add to his problems by becoming an overstayer.

Patong man Sapornchai Turnthin, 43, told Phuket police last month that he last saw his 940,000 baht black four-door Toyota Vigo on April 16, when Andy, at that stage a friend, rented the vehicle to take his visiting parents on a tour of Phuket and Thailand.

Now a woman vehicle renter in Pattaya has told Phuketwan that Andy hired a Vigo pickup from her on May 3. The woman confirmed that the vehicle had been rented to Andy, but did not wish to give further details.

''Andy called last Saturday,'' she said. ''He said he would bring the car back.'' No more details were forthcoming.

The owner of a block of apartments on Phuket also recollected Andy staying in Chalong from July 2009 to July 2010.

''All the documentation was in the name of his girlfriend, Urai Khongdee,'' said the apartment owner, who wishes to remain anonymous.

''He was a nice, easygoing guy; never any problems with him. But oddly, he did a 'midnight move' from our place about the time his contract was up for renewal, which I always thought was dumb because we kept his deposit.

''I talked to my staff today and they said he came by the building again a few months ago looking to get his same room back but we were full then. He was driving a black pick-up truck.''

Khun Sapornchai and Andy became friends about the time Andy, a Hungarian whose first name is Andras, was running a Hungarian restaurant. The restaurant later closed.

The apartment owner provided Phuketwan with two mobile telephone numbers for Andy and his girlfriend. The numbers were not working when we called.

Not surprised, I mean who the hell would pay to eat that dog food?
