Thai jet fights crash in military exercise
    Feb 14, 2011

Bangkok - Two US-made jet fighters crashed Monday during a joint Thai-US military exercise in Thailand, officials said. It was not immediately clear if there were casualties.

'We lost contact with the two F-16 fights at 10:20 am,' Thai Air Force spokesman Air Vice Marshal Monthon Sanchukorn said.

The Air Force located at least one of the crashed jets in Chaiyaphum province, about 300 kilometres north-east of Bangkok, and sent a rescue team to the site, he said.

    Both pilots were Thais.

The planes were taking part in the annual Cobra Gold military exercise conducted between the US and Thai forces.

Not unless they have a secret long range missile. More likely a home made rocket fired by a discontented red shirt near Chaiyaphum.

^^Never though of that. Guess the anti-black magic amulets have yet to be issued to Air Force pilots.

    Actually that isn't 2 F16 they lost.

    2 Apachy gunships.
    Some transport planes.
2 Chanooks, although 1 looks like it needs a rebore.

    Ermm.. that's 58 F16 now.
Although knowing the Thais they's probably have the crashed ones going in a couple of days.

They'll salvage the debris and after a bit of hammering and straightening use as spare parts.

    This is Thailand.

    They probably paid for 60.

    2 got delivered.

A lot of people now have new cars, including the monk who brokered the deal.

The positive aspect to this is that there won't be any more F 16's crashing in the near future.

...not until they build the other 58 out of the spare parts on order.

Air force sets up F16s crash inquiry
    14/02/2011

Air force commander ACM Ithaporn Suphawong has ordered the Air Safety Division to set up an inquiry into the crash of two F16 fighters in Chaiyaphum province on Monday morning, air force spokesman Monthon Satchukorn said.

Air Marshal Monthon said that the two fighters were first of of the 16 F16As bought from the United States in 2002 to have crashed.

It was not yet known what caused the crash. However, he did not believe the two airplanes collided in mid-air. The pilots would not have been able to eject to safety.

The two pilots - Group Captain Krisda Sukchan and Flight Lieutenant Chatchanon Promdet - had contacted Wing 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima and confirmed they are safe, AM Monthon said.

Search and rescue helicopters and land vehicles has been sent into the area near Tat Ton waterfall in Muang district of Chaiyaphum province to find the pilots, who would be able to explain what happened.

AM Monthon confirmed that the two fighters were part of a flight of four F16s that took of from Wing 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima as part of the Cobra Gold 2011 exercise about 9am. The two fighters and disappeared from radar at 10.20am.

They now know that the big red button is for the ejector seat and not the radio.

    wonder if

they just did not know how to fly these properly? They have a good reliable flying record! Or was it that the aircraft was not serviced properly? Something to think about!

Two down at the same time? Its either a collision or a very serious malfunction concerning both aircraft going down at the same time? Maintainence issue thats possible. Although I will go with they touched each other or collided if they were in close proximity.
