Village Head Candidate Attacked in Petchaburi Province

UPDATE : 17 December 2010

A village head candidate has been seriously injured in an attack in Phetchaburi province.

The motive is believed to be political.

A man has been seriously injured following a rampage by criminals travelling in a pick up truck in the western province of Phetchaburi.

The victim has been identified as 48 year Yothee Burananrom, an influential figure in Ban Laem district.

He said that on his drive home, he was suddenly shot by thugs in a pick up truck that drove by at high speed.

He sustained serious injuries to his right shoulder and the right side of his body.

The bullets shattered the right window, the right door, and the back of the truck.

Yothee went on to say that after fleeing seven kilometers, he arrived home and was brought to hospital by his relatives.

Doctors say he is now in a stable condition.

Police's initial speculation is that the attack was politically motivated as Yothee is a village head candidate.
