The Reds to rally at least 4 times in October, said Red Shirt group’s core member

Red Shirt group reveals on Thursday their plan to stage a rally at least 4 times in October, hoping to send out their messages clearer and louder this time around.

Mr.Somyos Prueksakasemsuk, one of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), has revealed today that the group has already planned to gather and rally on 4 occasions during the month of October. He stated that the group would reunite on 10, 14, 16 and 17 October under the theme of The Red Crown Reunite to Fight Back. The events included in the 4 days are the rally from Ayutthaya to Bangkok and the sign representing their voices and thoughts written on a 1 kilometer long banner, which is expected to be the reunion’s highlight.

Mr.Somyos also added that the group remained firm about their request to have the government meet their 4 demands including the release of all UDD’s accused, Court of Justice Restructure, economic reformation and sufficient agriculturists’ income guarantee. Furthermore, the group has also demanded the government to be neutral when broadcasting news and presenting the truth to the public.

CRES: October the month to watch

All security agencies have been ordered to go on full alert during the month of October for possible acts of violence, CRES spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Friday.

Col Sansern said the order was given at today's meeting of the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES).

"Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban and army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha said information on hand warns there may still be moves to cause violence during the month of October. So all agencies concerned are required to step up security measures, both for important places and important persons," said the CRES spokesman.

On a report that the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship plans to rally at the Royal Plaza on Oct 7, Col Sansern said this would be in violation of the emergency decree.

Seems like they have accepted that the government wont step down and hold a new election before October.
Funny how they suddenly have become reasonable in their demands.

There is still a state of emergency, but Bangkok groups plan to commemorate the three major anniversaries of past violence, including the Oct 8 attack on parliament by the PAD two years ago.

Rally plans for October spark fears
    2/10/2010

Security beefed up, PAD chafes at CRES warning

Security authorities are being placed on high alert as political groups organise highly charged commemorative gatherings this month to mark past bloodshed.

October marks the anniversary of several political revolts against past military and civilian governments. There were student uprisings in 1973 and 1976 and the yellow shirt protest in 2008.

The spate of explosions and bomb scares in Bangkok in recent weeks has increased fears that violent elements could test lapses in security to cause trouble.

The yellow shirt People's Alliance for Democracy has raised security concerns as it plans to gather at the Royal Plaza to mark the second anniversary of the Oct7 protest against the Somchai Wongsawat administration.

PAD demonstrators laid siege to parliament in 2008 to prevent Mr Somchai from delivering his government's policy statement. A violent confrontation with riot police ensued in which two protesters were killed and scores were injured.

National Security Agency secretary-general Thawil Pliensri yesterday played down fears of violence surrounding the planned anniversaries.

Mr Thawil said the activities being organised to mark the Oct 14, Oct 6 and Oct 7 events were unlikely to result in any trouble, but it might be better for everyone involved to help authorities maintain peace and order.

He said security agencies had warned that there might be violence in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces following a report that eight locations were vulnerable to bomb attack.

But he gave an assurance that national police chief Wichean Potephosree was working hard to ensure public safety.

The spokesman for the Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation, Sansern Kaewkamnerd, said the PAD had submitted an application to hold a public gathering.

The CRES suggested that the yellow shirts gather in an enclosed area, otherwise they could be in violation of the state of emergency.

PAD coordinator Suriyasai Katasila responded by criticising the CRES for blocking their planned gathering.

Mr Suriyasai said the PAD was not holding a political rally but a religious ceremony to make merit for the victims of violence.

"The CRES should review its stance," he said.

"It allowed the red shirts to gather at Ratchaprasong intersection on Sept 19 and that was clearly a political gathering."

Emergency rule now only remains in force in Bangkok and its surrounding provinces of Nonthaburi, Samut Prakan and Pathum Thani.

The government yesterday lifted the emergency in the northeastern provinces of Udon Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen.

The revocation of the state of emergency in the northeastern provinces was recommended by the Interior Ministry. The order was announced following a security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Mr Thawil said yesterday the lifting of emergency rule in Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces had not been considered by the cabinet.Meanwhile, about 500 crowd control police have been assigned to watch a red shirt rally tomorrow in Ayutthaya.

The provincial police chief, Pol Maj Gen Jaruwat Waisaya, has called a meeting to rehearse security plans.

Hundreds of red shirts in Bangkok led by Sombat Boon-ngamanong will travel to Ayutthaya by train to hold activities, including the symbolic tying of red cloths around Pridi Bridge.

Rail and road authorities in Ayutthaya said yesterday they were bracing for the red shirt gathering but did not think the situation would get out of hand.

"We will treat them like other passengers, but railway police will be preparing security," said Chaichan Khokdokmai, assistant chief of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya train station.

Police on high alert before political gathering
    Nuttaporn Chanchokpong

BANGKOK, 3 October 2010 (NNT) - The National Police Chief launched the new center to operate during violent situation in preparation for the upcoming political rallies in October.

After reporting to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva about the preparations for the upcoming political rallies in October, National Police Chief, Police General Wichean Potephosree, asks the rally organizers to choose appropriate venues and not to violate the emergency law.

October marks many anniversaries related to politics, including student uprisings in 1973 and 1976 and the deadly suppression of the People’s Alliance for Democracy’s protest in 2008.

The Royal Thai Police have set up the new center to operate in case violence erupts. The center will integrate many agencies together in taking control of the situation.

Police General Wichean insists that the emergency law will not be added up in any area because the authorities consider the special law as the last resort.

Meanwhile, Deputy Pheu Thai Leader Plodprasob Surasawadee agrees with the appointment of General Prawit Wongsuwan as the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation Director, as the replacement for Mr Suthep Thuagsuban.

Mr Plodprasob stated that General Prawit was a former Commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Army, who understood the overall operation to protect national security.

Metro Police Bureau is to keep peace in Bkk

Superintendent Police Major General Vichai Sangprapai said he is confident the police will be able to arrest a suspect behind the bomb threat at Siriraj Hospital by the end of this week, while confirming that political movement by the red-shirt group is under control.

Based on evidence collected from the CCTV footage and forensic methods, police can now identify the suspect and will ask the court to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect before the week is over, Police Major General Vichai said.

As for the arrest of several red-shirt leaders in Chaing Mai, Vichai said the Metro Police Bureau will consider whether they were in breach of the emergency law during the anti government protest in Bangkok earlier this year before any legal action can be taken against them.

The Police Major General expressed his concerns over the red-shirt’s next political rendezvous at the Victory Monument on October 10th, saying it could be difficult for the police to handle given the number of protesters expected, as well as the fact that there will be no leaders the police can negotiate with relative to the crowd control measures. He, however, asserted that those who violate the emergency law will be prosecuted regardless of their political belief.

    Security tightened Oct 6-14

    By The Nation

The Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation has assinged police to take charge of security measures on October 6-to-14 in the face of rallies held by the yellow shirts and the red shirts, CRES spokesman Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd said on Wednesday.

In his first instruction as the CRES director, Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan ordered police to deploy 2,600 security forces bracing for the upcoming rallies, Sansern said.

"Prawit wants the anti-riot forces to be ready for reining in the situation within 15 minutes if violence erupts," he said.

The defence minister also instructed police to explain to rally organisers that the authorities would strictly enforce the law, including the ban for erecting a rally stage, he said, adding the security measures will be applied to both the yellow shirts and the red shirts.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau has been assigned the primary responsibilities to keep peace at red and yellow rallies.

Red-shirts to rally on Sunday The Red Sunday group will hold a parade in Bangkok on Sunday, calling for the release of political prisoners detained for more than four months, core leader Sombat Boonngam-anong said on Wednesday.

Red-shirt supporters and core leaders of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) have been held at various prisons in the capital and other provinces on charges including violating the emergency decree and inciting violence, since the government use troops to disperse protesters at Ratchaprasong intersection on May 19.

The red-shirts’ car and motorcycle procession will leave Ratchaprasong intersection about 1pm on Sunday, moving via Ratchadamri road to Rama IV road, where former army specialist Maj Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol (alias Seh Daeng) was assassinated, to Bon Kai, Din Daeng junction and then end at the Democracy Monument, Mr Sombat said.

It was expected that the tail of the procession would reach the Democracy Monument about 5pm, he added.

    Police worried about red rally

The police were not concerned about the yellow-shirt gathering today to mark the second anniversary of the Oct 7 protest against the Somchai Wongsawat government, but are apprehensive about the red-shirts' planned anti-government rally this Sunday, Metropolitan Police Bureau division 1 chief Wichai Sangprapai said.

Pol Maj Gen Wichai said 470 policemen were deployed to maintain security during the yellow-shirt People's Alliance for Democracy's gathering this morning and 450 would be dispatched later in the afternoon.

However, he did not expect any violence during today's gathering.

Asked about the red-shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship's plan to gather on Sunday, he said police will have to be better prepared as there would be far more people at the UDD rally.

He said the red-shirt co-leaders told the police they will cooperate with authorities and abide by the law.

Wow, posting 2 year old videos, snide comments about attendance at rallies (didn’t know it was a competition). You are rally into this anti-PAD and pro-UDD thing aren’t you?

Do you truly believe there is anything more to this then a power struggle between factions with people changing sides so fast and so many times it is sometimes hard to keep up?

Do you really think that the plight of the poor people will improve if Jatuporn is made PM?

    • Online news: Politics

Police has coordinated with co-leaders of the United front for Democracy against Dictatorship to end their political rallies at 5pm on Sunday to avoid possible unrest, police chief Pol Gen Wichean Potephosree said on Saturday.

About 3,300 policemen from provincial police region 1,2 and 7 and border petrol police would be deployed in Bangkok areas on Sunday to ensure law and order, Pol Gen Wichean said after chairing a meeting of relevant police units to discuss measures to deal with the planned red-shirts rallies tomorrow.

Police had assessed the situation and believed about 5,000-7,000 red-shirts would turn out to join the rally to demand for the release of their detained leaders, he added.

The police chief advised Bangkokians to avoid main roads and venues that the red-shirts rallies would take place.
