The Courier-Mail print edition has obtained a copy of an arrest warrant for the former Gold Coast MP, who severely embarrassed the State Government in 2006 by quitting Parliament to live in Thailand.
Poole, 61, is facing charges of "cheating and fraud", according to an interpretation of the arrest warrant, which was issued only last month.
The warrant was drawn up in the northeastern province of Surin where Poole built his palatial home, "The Poole House", while still an MP.
It is believed the charges relate to a company he established in Thailand, Envee Energy Australia, which also counts another former Labor MP, Don Livingstone, as a shareholder.
.
Poole and Mr Livingstone have previously attempted to sue Envee Energy, an Australian business of the same name, for $500,000 over a soured deal to rent hot water systems to the Gold Coast company.
There was speculation immediately after Poole's spectacular resignation in March 2006 that he was already involved in setting up a business to manufacture water heating pumps in Thailand before he called it a day on his five-year political career.
Poole yesterday described the Thai charges as "absolute bull---- " which he would vigorously defend. "It is a load of bull---- because I simply haven't done anything," he said. But Poole admitted he was holed up in Malaysia and avoiding a return to Thailand because of the charges.
