you will find that there is quite unity among Thai to end that non-sense with the reds, they have no public support, they lost, time to move on, everyone is waiting for the government to act effectively. The only division is how, violent or peaceful ?Originally Posted by Panda

BANGKOK, 18 April 2010 (NNT) –The Center for the Resolution of Emergency Situation (CRES) prohibits the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) protestors to set up a rally stage in front of the Bangkok Bank Head Office on Silom road.
CRES Spokesperson, Colonel Sansern Kaewkamnerd stated that the prime minister’s order, empowering General Anupong Paochinda, the Army Chief, in charge of CRES is aimed at shortening the line of command in order to help increase efficient operations while Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban remains the CRES director monitoring the situation.
Colonel Sansern said that after General Anupong was appointed to oversee CRES, additional check points will be set up nationwide, to help bar the movement of UDD protestors from neighboring provinces, who are planning to join the mass demonstration in Bangkok. Moreover, the law will be enforced more seriously in a bid to control the movement of the protestors. CRES Spokesperson also insisted that CRES will not allow the UDD protestors to squat in front of the Bangkok Bank Head Office on Silom road and has already prepared the Emergency Response team (ERT) to deal with their moves.
In response to recorded evidence of the 10 April bloodshed, Colonel Sansern stated that there must be a group of terrorists who are trying to kill military officers and protestors. He therefore asked the rally goers to disperse the demonstration, adding that the government will stick to a democratic process in any future decision. He lastly said that 500,000 CD copies of 10 April bloodshed will also be distributed to the people very soon.

They tried that when the protests were starting by setting up multiple road blocks between Issarn and Bangkok. Didn't work then and cant see it working in an urban environment such as Bangkok with all the back sois and alley ways.
It remains to be seen how streniously General Aupong labours to rout the protesters. His actions in the coming days will tell a lot about the general political situation behind the scenes.

BTW, do you get more stars if your father is a big wig?
Pretty much - with Suthep they had a chance at negotiations, with the army in charge, and pretty much having carte blanche, negotiations are over.
Oh sure, they will move *only* against the terrorist elements amongst the Red Shirts - and it will now be easier to claim collateral damage caused by those terrorist elements. Yep, they realize they are screwed.
Hardly a coup. Why? The Army seems to be working with the PM.

Gen Prawit to be appointed as new CRES Director

29 September 2010
Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban prepares to name Defense Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan as the new Director of the Center for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation (CRES) in his place.
Mr Suthep, also Secretary-General of the Democrat Party and incumbent CRES Director, was yesterday nominated by the executive members of the Democrat Party to contest the upcoming by-election in Surat Thani.
The poll, set to take place in Constituency 1 of the province on 30 October, will find a replacement for former MP for Surat Thani Chumphon Kanchana, who was recently banned from politics for five years by the court for false asset declarations.
The Democrat candidate will reportedly hand his resignation from the post of Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs by 8 October in order to run in the by-election.
