Caucasian Found Hanged in Woods in Rawai, Phuket

Phuket: Mystery hanging in Rawai woods

PHUKET: The body of a man presumed to be of European descent was discovered hanging from a tree in a secluded area of Rawai yesterday afternoon.

Police were unable to identify the deceased but said he was Caucasian, about 180cm tall and estimated to be in his 40s.

He had been dead for about eight hours before his body was found, police said.

A local resident initially discovered the body at about 4pm when fishing in the wooded area off Soi Leamganoi in Rawai.

The body was hanged from the neck by a long, blue, nylon packing cord tied to a low branch.

Police presume the death to be suicide as there were no signs of any superficial injuries on the body or anything to suggest a struggle.

The deceased, of average build, clean cut and with light brown hair, was wearing a white, short-sleeved, button-up shirt; cream shorts and dark blue sandals.

The only other object collected by police from the scene was a bottle of water.

The body was taken to Vachira Hospital for further investigation.

Perhaps a pathology finding may turn up some kind of Rohypnol or other knockout drug. Just because there are no bruises, struggle marks on the body doesn't immediately point to suicide.

Sorry, I am doing a bit of 'policework'...forgot who I was dealing with for a moment.

But if it takes long enough to ID them then the killer will be gone or the RTP will have stopped looking.

I used to think of suicide as the easy way out. In Thailand it the easy way out for the police. I don't buy it. I know there are some lost souls in Thailand but there are just too many of these stories.

All farang suicides here are cases of murder, covered up by the police due to laziness. This is fact. A barstool told me so.

If you are going to kill yourself. Would you take a bottle of water? As mentioned in the OP.

Maybe not a bottle of water, but I would have taken something to stand on while I tied the rope around my neck, Kind of hard to tie it and then hoist yourself up.

You don't hnve to stand on anything to kill yourself with a rope. Breaking your neck isn't the only way to do it. You can use it to cut off your circulation or to stop breathing. Just tie off and sit down putting your weight on the rope. You'll be out in no time and if nobody is there to loosen the rope you're a goner. Just ask David Carradine.

What I find peculiar about these suicides is nobody ever seems to leave a note. I find that unusual. Also, it would be interesting to know if there were any suspicious withdrawals of money around the time of death. I guess what I'm asking for is the police working the case which may be a bit much to ask.

Yea, and it also said hanging from a low branch. Hanging doesn't mean his feet weren't touching the ground. It could mean the rope was supporting his weight. Try this: Stand up and tie a short rope to a low branch just about head level using a slip knot. Now sit down and wait for the blood to stop flowing to your brain. Let me know how that works out for you if you wake up.
